my parents adopted a puppy from my rescue about 4 months ago. When I got her, she was a petrified and neglected 4 month old babygirl who didn't know what to do with people. When she was adopted out of this house she was housebroken and extremely calm, obedient, and well-mannered.

Now 4 months later she is a BEAST that jumps up on people, will not sit unless you have a treat, etc.

I can't even say anything to my parents b/c *it's my parents*. I've suggested obedience several times but they are like "she's so scared we don't want to upset her." I'm like "she got over being scared MONTHS ago."

unfortunately, when it comes to family, it's hard to communicate about pets and what's best for them.

MIL or not, she still has no business mistreating a bird. I hope you will be able to monitor the situation.

It is hard! For your own sanity, sometimes it is best to show by example. Focus your energy on making the Tiels life better. Now that she is in your care maybe/hopefully, your MIL will see how that there are little things she could do to keep the Canary in an at least tolerable situation. And, when you can, take initiave at her house, and do something to make the canary a little less miserable.

I have found that when i am feeling lazy about washing dishes, I get more motivation to do them when my friends come over, and start doing them for me. Does that make any sense.....? :)

I understand she' s a grown woman and all that, but it's the BIRD you're concerned about. AT least you know she has this one - you didn't know about the poor little tiel. You can do some 'spot checks' on the canary, make sure he's ok once in a while. That tiel is adorable - I don't know how someone can put such a dear little creature in the basement and forget about him.
I'm so glad you have the tiel. Your heart is in the right place.
