I am so P.O

My mother in law just emailed me saying she got a singing bird. Im assuming it is a canary. I just dont understand how a person who put her cockatiel in the basment and tried to forget about it thinks she can run out and get another bird. I called my husband at work to blow off some steam and he told me Shes a grown woman. She can do what she wants. I dont want to hear it.
Well that just made me HOTTER.
I just know that she will tire of this bird. I just hope she calls me this time to see if I will take it before she sends it to the basement

Well, I guess the upshot is, if she got a canary, he probably doesn't want to be touched anyhow. So as long as he's in a reasonably sized cage, and kept in a high traffic area, he may be alright. Maybe you could pick up a good sized cage and give it to her as a gift, since she was probably given one of those tiny little parakeet cages for it.

She put her 'Tiel in the basement?!? Please tell us this woman doesn't have children.

Maybe you could point her to a website out there for some info on properly caring for it? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that if she does "get tired of it", she'll call you first.

What is she thinking? I know how hard it is to deal with the in-laws - no matter what you say to her, sounds like it's not going to help any. At least you can sorta be the canary's "guardian angel".

Don't you HATE it when you try and get your fustrations out and hubby can't just say "sorry dear" and give you a hug! they either have to try and fix it or mmake things worst w/comments like that!!

I know Micheal would never do that would you??!!!!!

ah man.... some ppl just never learn. After the finches and the tiel you'd think she'd give up. Guess she just doesn't understand that they're not "just birds".

I'm sure you love your hubby, so don't take this the wrong way, but some men really need to learn to stand up to their mothers!

I have one of those mother in laws that whatever she wants she gets. None of her children will stand up to her and tell her when she is doing something wrong or to even tell her to HUSH. Me on the other hand have learned to keep my mouth shut because its not worth arguing with my husband for a week over it. I learned the hard way
Now all I can do is hope that I will get the call to come & get the poor thing.
Michael there were several cages in the basment. I didnt take the cage that I found the Tiel in. I will call her this evening and ask about the cage it is in now. I will NICELY suggest putting it in the Tiel cage. It was a nice size & I believe the bar spacing will be ok.

Christy, what happened to the tiel? Oh yea and by the way, give me your mother in laws phone number. I'll call her! This way you don't have to hear about it from your husband.

Last weekend when I was there I told her I was taking it home with me. I grabbed a small cage that was the cleanest in the basement and took it upstairs and gave it a good washing in bleach water then put the tiel in it & brought it home with me. It is in quarantine in my bedroom right now. I was able to include him in on the Dr. visit next week when I take Piper in. He seems to be doing fine. Very mean. I did get his wings trimmed and try to get him out at night so he can get used to people. Today was the first day that he whistled. He actually sounded pretty good. LOL

Ah, the dreaded mother in law situation. Well yes a husband must always support his wife. His first loyalty should always lie with her, and yes, mine does. But as a supportive and respectful wife, it is important to respect a man's relationship with his mother and not try to come between them, pit him against her, or put him in an impossible situation regarding her. It's one of those, "If you loved me you would", "If you loved me I wouldn't have to" kind of things.
