The Necropsy Results are in...

.. and they are inconclusive!

That's right. The vet left a message on my cell phone while I was visiting friends at a wake this afternoon.

I checked my voicemail in the bathroom when he told me...

"The final results came in on the 2nd, but I have been calling the 221-#### number. The lab didn't find anything wrong with Mango - no disease, bad bacteria, fungus, cancer - not even birth defects or inflammation."

I guess he didn't run the microtoxin test yet and asked me to call him Tuesday. He wants to contact Beak Appetit and see if they will pay for the microtoxin test, and also to give them the heads up.

At the end of the message he said, "Mango shouldn't be dead."

So right now we are at a standstill. He isn't back in until Tuesday, so all we can do is guess and hope.

I'll update everyone when I learn more on Tuesday.

Thanks,

Blake

Blake,

I'm sorry to hear about Mango. I must have missed the post somehow.(it might have been while I was off in la la land over Sara).

I feed Morgan Beak Appetit, do you or the vet suspect something with the food caused the death?

Emily.

Wow that sucks! I hope your eventually able to find something out. Can an allergy kill like that did the vet say? I know alot of people use beak appetit so I'm really curious about that.
And nice to have you back by the way.

So sorry Blake! It is so much better to have a difinitive answer but sometimes you don't get one on a necropsy.

Blake:

You may never know. However, what you DO know is that you don't have to worry about bringing another bird into your home, and that's really the whole point of doing the necropsy in the first place.

I really doubt that the Beak Appetit is the culprit. I've used it in the past and have some here and wouldn't think twice about feeding it. God creates creatures with "expiration dates" and sometimes we simply can't read the fine print.

Again, thanks so much for doing it right. We all learn as we go.

At least you know that Lily is safe from having caught a disease from Mango, that's the most important thing!

Thanks Nancy (and everyone else, for that matter). I had talked with the "head vet" (he actually owns the practice) and he said I should contact Beak Appetit to see if they will pay for the microtoxin test. He said it can be very expensive and said it could be "like looking for a needle in a haystack." Fortunately he said they have some ideas, but we'll just have to see.

And your right. We may never know. But at least Lily, and anyone else who may come home with me () is safe.

I'll keep everyone updated on whatever may happen. And thanks again.

Blake
