Muy Feo

Sick of him yet? Me neither

As hard as it is, I'm really trying to only spend as much time with Feo as I will be able to in the long run. We'll have Hurley for the next 20-30 years, and Feo even longer, and I want to be fair to them. I'm finding that having bought the largest cage I could afford, and having great toys from Nancy and Ellie Mae makes it a lot easier for me to let him spend time in his cage.

Speaking of which, he loves his toys. Hurley has never seemed to take much of an interest in toys, with the exeption of the one Ellie sent with the whiffle balls. But Feo LOVES them. He's got Aunt Nancy's on his playstand, and Aunt Ellie's in his cage. And he can't get enough of them.

Good advice has been helpful in a happy homaking as well. Like the advice I was given to put boxes in the bottom of the cage to protect Feo from hurting himself when he fell. Well, he falls, and it's hilarious, because I know he's okay.

So a big thank you for the toys and advice, and a big hello from Feo!

I think giving baby parrots as much attention as adult birds is not the way to go. Baby parrots need instructional attention to learn how they are expected to behave in our homes, just as they would get instructional attention from their parrents in the wild as to how to survive and thrive in that environment. They need to be taught how to be independent, not just have it expected of them. The problem is too much cuddling and holding birds that can spoil them. That being said, as Liz Wilson says: "A macaw that has not received a hug today REALY needs a hug". Show Feo hiow much fun his toys are and how to forrage for food by hiding treats in things for him to find. Teach him what things are by pointing to them and naming them, especially yourself, your wife, Hurley, and other things important in his life.

It will be very important for your wife to take pictures of you in Feo's cage teaching him how to forage for treats. Inquiring (ornery) minds will need that to assure us that he's being properly trained.

Well, it doesn't seem to be getting any worse. I fear it may be there until it grows out though. I think it's kind of cute.

Franciscus:
That's interesting. I do cuddle him a lot more than I anticipate an adult will want. I'd love any excuse to play with him all day. Maybe I will give him a grand tour and let him out a bit earlier today. As long as I can keep up the battle of the playstand

LOL Michael....I think we share the same battle. Bosco likes his play stand but would prefer Mommy to be his personal play stand! I am glad Feo is loving his new home so much. I still walk Bosco around our house pointing out things to him and he has been home for several months now. It's nice bonding time for both of us. I usually do it at a "settle down" time of the day....after play time.

...the bonding is fun..albeit strange at times...Ever is still in Quarantine for a few more days...I've been spending between 8-10 p.m. with her every night, after the rest go back in 'lock-down' ...

...these last few days she's been spending a considerable amount of time nibbling and licking my ears...*eep* I have a strange feeling she wants to feed them...

I know they say your not supposed to spend too much time with new babies, but I'm such a sucker for a pretty face. I couldn't resist smooching that white patch A LOT! Still, I know its for his own good. Heck, I still snuggle with Miss Lily every night and she's gonna be 8!

I'm very happy that you lined his grates with the boxes. I told ya so .

You might want to try a large rope perch in his cage as well. They are easier for the young ones to grip, and are much easier on their feet.
