NEW UPDATE on Triton Cockatoo for re_homing
Further update on Ozbird, the triton. His owner, Jane, is now offering him without charge to a good home but wants the recipient to either drive or fly to Dallas to get him. She is concerned about shipping.
Ozbird would be happiest as an only bird but also needs a person who will understand bird behavior enough to control the situation. He's gotten nippy out of jealousy because Jane works full time and has several other birds so is unable to give him as much of her time as he seems to need. He bites her as if punishing a "bad" mate and then obviously feels guilty for his behavior and tries to make up to her. He's a very smart and pretty bird and will respond to love and attention. Anyone who will "throw him out" if he bites should not volunteer as it takes time to reverse negative behavior. Since Jane is now offering him "free", she will keep his cage but intends to send his favorite toys. He's a toy destroyer as so many toos are. So, particularly anyone within driving distance to Texas would be a good choice. Kindly contact either myself> Sandy54@adelphia.net OR Terry> TT1Cowgirl@aol.com Thanx for helping re_home a beautiful bird!!!

The Ozzie I'm working with is a 7 yr. old male U2 which of course means that he is VERY hormonal. His present owners have only had him a few months, in which time he has overlly bonded to the lady of the house and has attacked the man a couple times. He has also bitten the lady, neither of these people had any experience with large birds when they brought Ozzie home, and now he is causing a riff in their marriage. I think that I may have a home for him in VA. however that would require shipping him. His owner and the lady looking to take him in are talking this weekend about him and weather this would be a good match. So I should know on Monday (fingers crossed) if things are going to work out.
In the past couple months I"ve rehomed a poor little quaker with QMS, a sun conure and a couple tiels, and have a couple other re-homings in the works. You would not believe the amount of birds in Florida looking for homes. Oh I also don't charge any fees, I think that the money is better spent on the birds. I have 20 here that I have agreed to take in forever, and will not be re-homed. I had planned on this a very long time then sort of fell into "rescue". At this point I just can't bring anymore here, I am looking into grants to start a larger rescue and have people ready to help when and if the time comes. Here is my web page address www.aviantreasures.com (the server had a bit of a melt down and took some of my pages, but you can see what I am doing :) I work with a network of rescues we are in CO, NB, AL & here and always on the look out for others that will fit in to what we are trying to do. The main rescue is in CO. and is to be featured in Lifetime magazine soon, we are not sure of the issue yet, but the interview has taken place and we are waiting on the photographer. I'm hoping that this will open up talks with other rescues, our goal is to have one in every state. Thank you so much for what your doing to help with the birds. I will certainlly let you know if I hear of anyone in TX. And I will let you know what happens with Ozzie. |
