Blood! (Lovebirds)

PP is quite a witch lately. She dragged some dill and attempted to make some kind of nest w/ it behind a stuff animal.

Lily goes in to investigate, and gets a piece of dill stuck in her leg band. PP thinks Lily is "stealing" nesting material and starts to attack Lily. Lily usually backs away from PP, but poor Lily has the dill wrapped good in her leg band. I break up the fight and pick up the terrified Lily, who takes off in fright: smack into a mirror!

I removed the dill, and grab the scissors, preparing to trim the ONE flight feather that just grew back in. Spreaded the wing, checking to see if there is a blood supply.

Instead? Lily is biting like mad, and whimpering in pain. I see some blood in the upper part of her wing! I don't know if PP did it or her crash into the mirror did it! I grabbed some tweezer, preparing to remove a broken blood feather.... Only thing is, it's not a broken blood feather!

It's more like some sort of hemmorraging in the wing area...
The wing itself does not seem broken.
I don't know how to better describe the injury, other than our equivalence to a blood blister?

It's a small area in the upper joint part of the wing itself.
I don't know what to do! Help! I sat there with Lily sitting on my shoulders thinking of what to do!

Since its really late I put her in a seperate, small cage, with some water and sprig of millet right next to the perch and covered her.

What next?

You'll want to keep that area clean and try getting a vet appointment to be sure that Lily is fine. You'll probably want to discourage PP from making a nest, otherwise, it would be better to keep Lily and PP seperate until PP is no longer hormonal.

What should I clean the area w/? Lily just had a very good, thorough soaking bath today, before the incident.

I have been discouraging PP from being nesty as much as possible. She has nothing to shred, no happy hut or anything. I rearrange their cages every few days, and keep their cage covered for 12 hours a day.

What else can I do?

I gave them a couple sprigs of fresh dill from the garden to eat, and had no idea that PP had been dragging it behind a stuff animal in her attempts!

I heard them fighting and broke up the fight... thats when I noticed the sprig of dill caught in Lily's band. I removed the bear and found a few other sprigs of dill back there.

PP is more bonded to me than Lily, eve though Lily is HER bird!

Thanks!
