My BB girl is really Baby boy!

Hi y'all,

A few weeks ago I was asking about some behavioral things and physical characteristics my girl bird was exhibiting. Well well well...there was a very good reason for that. SHE is a HE. Makes all the sense in the world to me....NOW. I was going by the color of the cere and had mistakenly determined that I have a girl.....My new vet for the kitties also happens to be an avian doc and she said most definitely I have a boy.....so BB is still BB just that now he is correctly identified as "Baby Boy". He still however has a mad love affair with my cat Kiki; that is NOT going to change! Oh oh! AND I think he has found a way to let me know that he is happy that I did some investigation....he now allows me and loves for me to scratch his cheeks and the back of his neck and under his chin! This is a first for me and I am so touched and awed by his love and trust! After I do this to him he usually sort of nibbles on my hand...is he preening me?

I am and will always be amazed by critters....

Ok Pam, where are the pics? I'd love to see BB!!! It just melts your heart doesn't it? when they start to trust you and let your scratch them. I'm so happy for you! You'll have a great friend!

I had the same thing happen to me when I had my first bird - a wonderful yellow budgie named Rello. I was told he was a male - and after 4 years "he" laid an egg!!!! Oh well! What a surprise it was!!!! The problem is that I kept refering to her as "him"... Oh well, she did not care as long as I fed her and took care of her I could call her anything!!!!

My avatar is a pic of BB on Kiki's head....I will get some better pics of just BB and post them...he really is very handsome!

I will never be able to live without a parakeet in my life ever again.

Isn't that always great! I had thought that BB was a male after the behavoir you discribed to us! Sounds like you have a great vet, as well!
