Hi guys,
some of you may have seen but alot of you probably have not, whilst reading through my monthly parrot maggazine there was a small article on an animal auction web site names www.anibid.com, they sell all soughts on there from horses to snakes and frogs and also are feathered friends. I do not know what to make of this site weather it is good or bad . take a look and tell us your thoughts. |

Ditto on the sentiments. But what we might want to do is join none the less and e-mail the ones auctioning off their birds and either invite them here and/or let them in no uncertain terms know that we find what they are doing very objectionable.
They have a Grey breeding pair that is going for $1500,00????

I still don't see how people could buy a bird they haven't met. The few I looked at appear to be overpriced by American standards. I would only buy a bird direct from a breeder anyway and preferably one who is in Parrot Society and has a good reputation for healthy birds.

Well, here's my spin on purchasing any bird you haven't met: you takes your chances. Even wonderful breeders have birds that simply won't warm up to a particular individual. Shopping for birds, in my opinion, really should be a bit more intimate. It really is all about eye contact and a mutual consent. It sometimes works out, that's been established, but often doesn't. The breeder can only make it understand that humans will be around doing certain things. They cannot guarantee a love connection.
You can say whatever you please about petshops, but the ONE advantage you have there is that you usually get to hold and interact with your bird and can do so for quite some time before you purchase it. The negative is that other people can too and that can cause problems with the bird. I'm old fashioned and DO believe at love at first sight. Of course, it has to be the BIRD that loves you.
