Does anyone know if a pair of chinese painted quail can do well/be happy in the bottom of a small finch aviary? The bottom is about 1' x 4' and the top of the aviary is about 4' up. I currently keep paper on the bottom, but I have read that quail do best with wood chips or something more absorbent. I have heard it is ok for the quail to pick thru the seed droppings from the finches, but does anyone know if the quail food would hurt the finches if they decided to try it?
Thanks for any help/input. |

Quail usually do fine with woodchips, or even grass/dirt on the bottom. They especially love to pick through the grass for bugs! They should probably do fine overrall, though I don't know much about quail food, plenty of people have kept quail on the bottoms of aviaries (from finches and canaries, to budgies and cockatiels) without problems, unless the quail had chicks and the wire was big enough for the chicks to go through (so keep this in mind if your quail breed, however with finches I'm sure the wire is small enough that not even quail chicks could fit through those holes!)
