Unfortunately we have one here that always says an ugly phrase - ask Tammy - she has heard him! Buck will repeatedly tell you to "f you" if he gets upset. His trips out are limited as I never know when he is going to say his ugly phrase!

Chiquita also has said "f you" to me when I didn't come running to obey her... the "s word" is also part of her vocabulary. Luckily she doesn't use these often... (she also didn't learn them from me!)

I think that story will do more harm than good, because although I know the problems it creates, the thought of that bird saying that to those people is pretty funny.

my 50+ year old mother is trying to teach Scarlett to say "f___ you!" Every time she comes over she repeats that to the bird. I have told her several times to stop but she thinks it's funny.

I even explained that if for some reason in the future Scarlett had to be rehomed, it would NOT be easy to find someone to take a bird with that in their vocabulary. Didn't even faze her.

Thank God Scarlett hasn't picked it up from her yet. If I know my parents are stopping by, I get her down from her boing in the kitchen and put her in her cage in the back room and close the door. Then they forget she's even here and leave her alone.

Niki's a potty mouth

She hasn't heard the bad phrases in 7 years, but they still occasionally pop up. Especially during the "shutup wars" (her and Tiki - she taught Tiki!)

She'll come out with "Shut the F***! up" she'll also say "s***"

The other day she actually said "F WORD" not the word....exactly what I typed! That's a new one, because someone will say what'd she say?, and we respond with F-Word.... at least that's better, but we didn't mean to teach her that.

The poor parrot at the zoo.... what a riot! But now he doesn't get to go out and play!

Question

I don't have the swearing problem yet with my amazon. To be on the safe side (because of t.v. or guests, or me unfortuately). How do you safely stop the cursing? I've asked people not to curse in my house, because I don't see the point in it, also I'm trying to break a habit I had years ago, but once in a while something will slip out (rarely happens from my mouth now, thank goodness).

I don't have a problem yet either...we don't swear enough that I worry about the birds picking it up from us...

...but I think (she's very garbled when she speaks, so I can't be sure) that Ever said 'Shut up!' and 'Damn it!' the other day when she was all wound up...

...I imagine, if she doesn't hear those phrases at our place (reinforcement) they should eventually drop from her 'working' vocabulary...
