My day with the birdies

All the usual suspects were at TGF. Gave baths.....made toys. Chatted with birdies...gave scritches when needed. Overall a splendid day.

I did do something special though.

I am now sponsoring 2 baby's.....

Ladies & Gentlemen, please say hi to Jasper!

Jasper is 10 years old.......he is my little ball of birdy. Because he has plucked his tail & wing feathers, and his chest. He basically runs around on the ground, and climbs the enclosure. He loves his baths, and loves head scritchs. His owner had to give him up, and thats when he started plucking. He comes from Wyoming, and when possible his former owner does come to visit him. He is a nervous little guy, but when he see's his owner, on the rare occasion she visits, he runs right to her, and climbes up her pant leg. They think his plucking is a seperation thing. He is the sweetest little thing, but does nip, and gets nervous and runs back & forth when strangers are around.
He is getting some feathers growing in, and is just covered in fuzz, so he's not quite naked.

And of course Ricky Ricky Ricky Roo, whom I spent quite awhile with today, giving scritches and getting kisses.

My 2 boys

That's a great idea, sponsoring a bird.Is it strictly an online thing or do you actually live close enough to visit them?

Aww poor Jasper.

I don't think I could handle being his former owner and seeing him in such shape - that would be unbearable. Obviously she must have good reason for having to give him up but I would think stopping in occasionally would just "re-open the wounds" of both of them.

Anyhow, I am glad he is in good hands now and hope that he will learn to trust you and find a good permanent home soon.

Ricky Roo is looking good. how is he progressing?

I'm pretty sure Jasper is a goffin cockatoo, one of the smaller species.

Lets just say this... some say that the average weight of a goffin is 221-386 grams

An moluccans average weight is 640-1025 grams

although some may be out of those weight ranges, that gives you an idea.... goffin's tend to be half as small, if not smaller, than a moluccan.
