Feo's Test Results

I promised you'd know when I knew. Well, the vet just called, and apparently, Feo is a healthy baby bird! The tests for infection and disease all came back negative. The doctor says the only thing she can think of is that he has a weak beak. She is also hopeful that as he continues eating an adult diet and grows, that it will grow out.

So, still something to watch, but overall a major load off my mind!

Mike that is sooo great to hear!

I don't know if you know this or not, but with Feo it might be a good idea..dont' let him crack his own nuts just yet- baby beaks are pretty soft for the first year. Peanuts are okay, but the hard shell nuts should be cracked first.

I can't imagine how he could have hurt himself so badly to cause such a hemmorage under his beak.. my guess is it will continue to leak over the next few months as the beak continues to grow...

Michael:

I have not posted to date but I have been following your saga daily. Been checking back on the forum every day hoping to find some good news and I am delighted for you. What a relief!

I was particularly interested in your story since I am bringing home a male B&G in about 4 or 6 weeks as he is finishing up being weaned at the breeder's. Was heartbroken when you posted of his bleeding beak and wondered what I would do under similar circumstances. Thank you for following up with all of us. As Nancy said earlier, you have done everything by the book. Its nice to know that it pays off to do so!

I look forward to future threads on Feo's progress.

I have also been following this. I am so happy to read the great news. I can't imagine what you have been going through, worrying and waiting. Smile now, give Feo a big apple slice for passing his tests.

I'm so happy for you both! I've been very worried about Feo. It's wonderful that he's healthy. :)
