$8000 Cag

Over at the bird store I frequent, they have been boarding a CAG that I believe they said was 6 or 8 yrs. She is to be shipped by the breeder to Fla in the near future. Her tail feathers are white, other than that she looks like a normal CAG. I was going to take my camera along to grab a picture but forgot. They said the bird sold for $8000. It's the only one I've ever seen like that.

Here's a shot of a white grey. Haven't a clue where it is, for I've had it in my files for a while.

I'll have to grab the camera and run to the shop, I can't seem to find a picture like this bird anywhere on the web. The body feathers and head are normal CAG coloring and the tail feathers are white vs red. That is the only difference I see when sitting next to a regular CAG. I believe they said it was a mutation.

I've seen atleast one photo of the grey with white feathers, and even greys with an excessive amount of red around the stomach, which was also called a 'red diaper'. I can't seem to find these images anymore, however, especially on the red greys...

yes, I have seen this in pictures, not in real life.
It is missing whatever it needs to make the tail red.
The pic that Nancy posted is an albino grey, that still maintained its red gene in the tail.
I would LOVE to see a picture of this bird....I will be checking frequently to see your picture!!!!

For the albino grey, its not a true albino, it's like a normal green budgie vs a normal blue budgie. The only thing missing is the yellow melanin that makes the blue budgie green. So the albino grey is not a true albino in the sense that it still has a red tail. It's only missing the grey melanin.

The white tailed greys are missing the red melanin that produces the red.

The greys with extensive amounts of red may be caused by the same thing that causes the red or grey colors to be gone (white tailed or 'albino), except in reverse... in the effect that it induces a more amount of red coloring in the bird (such as red suffusion in lovebirds-though how closely these are related I can't say). Well, in the least bit, it starts with the birds DNA and something going wrong that makes the DNA sequense (or sentence as it's also referred to) to have missing parts, extra parts, replaced parts with the wrong sentence, etc...

Right...I believe the picture posted is off the african grey chart and is listed as an albino grey. I belive it has red eyes, thus them listing it as Albino. The charts could have been made in the 1800's **LOL** as are alot of the bird books so many people are reading as new information!
The fed Factor greys, are still being researched. Most greys will loose the Excessive red with thier first moult. They have also been called "king" congo greys and in folklore, been thought to posess special powers.

Wow, are you sure you weren't in Australia at the time? That's what CAGS sell for here!

Question

What does CAG mean? I know it's the bird you are referring to but...
