Bird Accident = Trama

h ello everyone my name is Megh and i have a question about my bird Peanut. I got him 7 months ago and he is a parakeet. He is very afraid of me because our 4 dogs ( aunts dogs ) got to him and ripped all his feathers out. I feel horrible about what happended and now he wont talk or let me touch him at all. He wont leave his cage or nothing. I want him to trust me again . Any ideas what to do !?

well....i would definately start out by keeping Peanut FAR away from the dogs.....i realize its really not the dogs fault, just complete instinct but....you have to make sure this NEVER happens again.....to me....every relationship is built on TRUST of which you will have to slowly regain with Peanut......i mean heck.....i'd be hiding under a rock too..!!!!!....talk softly to him/her......always move slow and be gentle......Peanut needs someone to trust................................ :-(:-(:-(:-(

Peanut sounds extremely tramatized by the incident, but make sure that your little budgie is eating his fruits and veggies to stay fit. If he does not eat fruits and veggies, you need to switch him onto a healthier diet. What may be adviced is a trip to an avian vet so that he can do an evaluation and make sure that Peanut is okay and there are no problems on his body, nor any inside. If he is malnourished, the vet may prescribe some vitamens and minerals to get him healthier. It may also be best if you are able to take him outside for atleast an hour a day in the sun, with a bit of shade (in a cage, of course), if not more. It's best if he is outside for atleast 4 hours a day with shade if you have the time to watch over him or be close by reading.

It may be hard to regain his trust since the incident, though be patient, talk to him, read to him, sing him lullabies, etc to try and gain his trust again. Be patient, and be carefull, this is very tragic for him...
