Anyone ever see a Millicinth (emerald) macaw?

I had the pleasure of meeting one this morning! I went up to the AV's to check in with him and visit with Mickey and Mallory for a few minutes (they are definately comming home on Thursday, BTW) and there was a lady there with an Emerald and a Hy. Dr Pierce introduced us and she let me hold Jade (the Emerald) for a few minutes. Sapphire, the Hy, was gorgeous as well but she wasn't interested in playing with me.

I know alot of you on here don't cotton much with hybrid breeding but I have to tell you this bird was absolutely stunning. He was as big as a Hy and and a lovely green with a tinge of blue to his feathers.

The lady, Judy Spires, told me she had a female as well and is going to be attempting to breed them. I didn't get to talk to her for very long, but she seemed like an accomplished and knowledgeable breeder and invited me to her home sometimes to meet her other birds, which include three other Hys.

When Dr. Pierce told her about my orphans, she told me that such kindness should be rewarded (I still call it being a sucker) and offered me a discount on one of her first batches of Emeralds! I told her I thought I had quite enough birds at home for now, although maybe by the time she has babies, I may be able to make room for just one more! LOL! (I'm joking of course, I believe we've hit our capacity of birdie family members, but I can dream, can't I?)

A pic I found online of a Millicinth (emerald)

I must say they are beautiful!

How are Mickey and Mallory doing? They will be home on Thursday? How wonderful!!!! You are so sweet and caring for what you are doing.
Is there anything that can be done to help you?

...glad to hear your guys are coming home!!!

...personally, I have no problem with breeding hybrids for the pet trade...why not? If the population of wild or purebreed animals is such that their gene pools remain as intact as possible...and you're not force breeding - I think hybrids are fine...

Hi! Mickey and Mallory are two macaws that were literally left on my doorstep as orphans. Both have Aspergillosis and have been at the AV for treatment. They are doing much better now.

Thanks for asking.

Actually I think Hys ARE endangered or near endangered. Still, ethics or not, that bird was fabulous looking and acting.

Here is the difference.... both can be emeralds, but the only thing thats the same is the green with blue shine and the hyacinth parent.... otherwise, the other parent is a different type of macaw...

Here is the military/hyacinth

Here is the buffons/hyacinth

Here is an image though of supposedly a blue and gold/hyacinth hybrid...

I don't think there is a parrot alive that needs improvement Jodi, LOL. They are all beautiful as is as far as I'm concerned. But I also value the uniqueness of my Bonnie and Lola, same as I'm sure you do for your Ruby.

I am not for or against hybrids. I don't have a gung ho for it attitude, but I'm not adamently against it either.

Anyways, not to start a discussion on hybrids, I just thought the bird was lovely and was tickled to meet him
