Teflon emits fumes anytime its heated. Unless you have a bird in a vacuum or its own air circulating system, then its always unsafe. Additionally, teflon breaks down over time worsening the problem.
Frankly, its unsafe for humans and there is currently serious attempts to have it removed. And, to top it off, now it also is appearing in fabrics and even showing up in shower cleaning agents. Its bad. I think there's an article in the archives titled "Are you smarter than Teflon?". That pretty much gives you the information you need. If you have any kind of Teflon heating appliances or cookware, you need to choose : Do you want a bird or a frying pan? Do you need a non-stick iron? Why does a hairdryer even have Teflon in the first place? At the end of the day, your bird is at your mercy. After all, you brought him home and placed him in a cage. I always think of canaries in coal mines when folks start talking about Teflon.
