Catastrophe for a friend and his fids

A friend of ours had a house fire early yesterday morning. He left to go to a breakfast meeting and when he came back, his house was in flames. He lost everything in a matter of about an hour and a half.

Fortunately, he had put his fids (2 macaws, an M2, and a U2) in his outdoor aviary while it was still cool before he left.His dogs were out back as well.But he lost a cat and three lovely little cockatiels and a giant saltwater tank of fish. Not to mention everything he owns although he isn't nearly as upset about the things as he is the animals.

Anyway, no real point to this post, it just struck me how scary it can be to leave your house with your fids locked up inside. *shudder*

(his friends have all split the animals up between us while he gets over the shock and finds a place for them all to live. He's staying with an aunt who won't allow animals in the house. I've got the two macaws here(yes, I accept it, I am the crazy bird lady, LOL) , another his dogs, and another friend took home the Too's, and yet another has promised to go load up his three horses and take them to his stable so they won't be out on the property with no one watching over them)

That's absolutely awful!!! I'll be sending good thoughts his way...our neighbour's house burned down to the ground several years ago...although no lives were lost, it was devastating...I can't imagine how much worse it is when you loose pets that way...

btw...you're a good friend for helping out...even if you are 'the crazy bird-lady'...{{{huggy}}}...

Dana, I am so sorry to hear that! That is like my worst nightmare-a house fire. How did it happen? Prayers for your friend and his Fids I hope he finds a new place soon.

Yeah, he is pretty shook up about it. The house is practically nothing but ashes now, and he says he was only gone about an hour and a half and evidentally when his nearest neighbors noticed (he's in the country so they are a ways off) they called the fire dept. right away but it was too late to do much. Hubby helped him bury the remains of his poor cat. Nothing was left of the birds or fish. It was really really sad.

And helping out with the birds is not that big of a burden. Simon (B&G) and Sam (GW) are old buddies of ours, and have been to the house before to play with the girls. Hopefully they'll only be here for a couple of weeks at the most till Dave can find them a place to stay where they can be together. He needs what's left of his fids close to him right now.

Thanks Tiki, I know he'll appreciate all the prayers he can get right now.

The fire inspector says it looks like an electrical short in the walls, but the offical report of the results isn't in yet.

I'm in GA actually. South GA. I appreciate the offer though. I think we'll be ok for a week or two. I don't expect it to be a long term stay and as long as they're here at the house, Dave can come over and visit with them everyday. If they went any further, he might not be able to and he's very attached to them all. But again, thank you.

And BTW, that's what I said, Heck, what's 2 more? LOL! (honestly, if there hadn't been anyone else, I'd have probably taken the dogs and the Toos home too, I'm such a sucker,but fortunately, there were other friends to take them in)

That's rough news. Thank God your friend has such good friends to pitch in and help him out. Now let's talk about the "crazy bird lady" thing. Crazy is abnormal and birds are perfectly normal, so it seems to me that you're pefectly normal.

Yes, but there are now 8 macaws in the house. 8! That has to be at least bordering on abnormal, LOL!

Dana, I'm really sorry to hear about your friend's house, that sucks to say the least, So very glad he put most of his creatures out before leaving! Good thoughts and wishes headed his way. Nice of you to take in the MAcaws.
