help w/ blood feather
Alec Byrd, my budgie, has a broken blood feather on his wing. This morning he had blood on his beak and I saw the feather while he was preening. There arent acres of blood nor is there any blood in the cage. I looked at it and it's a long flight that is reddish. This is my first broken blood feather experience! I put cornstarch on it as best I could.
What else should I do? They may have gotten spooked last night when a light came back on-the power had been out. He is also molting. |

If you see blood on him, you will want to try rinsing the blood off with luke-warm water so that the blood doesn't get on very many feathers and dry them together. If the feather continues to bleed, you may need to pull it out, however if you are not sure about this, try to see if you can find a vet, or another bird lover who could help you out in this. If with the cornstarch, the feather has stopped bleeding, you may actually not have to pull it out and may leave it alone.
