Birdie Busy Bags
I will be gone all day today and most of the evening. So, I've made up some birdie busy bags.
I've hung 2 new toys in every cage and filled the busy bags. I thought I'd tell the newbies how I do my bags. 1. Pop about 1/2 cup cheap popcorn with tsp. of olive oil or veggie oil in a standard school lunch bag, folding the top about 3 times tightly. Microwave until the popping stops. 2. Into each lunch bag (or treat bag for the little guys) place a handful of popped corn, 4 peanuts in shell, one Ritz cracker, some Cheerios and a little toy. I buy up McDonald's toddler toys at flea markets and also buy bags of little plastic dinosaurs, cowboys and soldiers. I place one toy in each bag. For the little guys, use your best judgement as to the contents, especially the food. Colored popsicle sticks would also be good here. 3. Twist the top of the bag tightly. You can now either just toss it into the cage just before you leave or hang it from some safe chain or rope. If you use caribiner clips, these work great. I toss a bag into every cage just before I leave. The big macaws go crazy. They just love them. The other birds seem to take a while, but when I come home, all of the bags have been seriously violated. This way, the birds have a new thing to play with and a small treat, too. I leave feeling a little less guilty. THE OUTLAW
