It's a Loo, Not a Nestbox!

I had hoped that a certain Ara Ararauna hen, who shall remain nameless, was finished with the egg laying for this year. No such luck. This afternoon at 15:20 I heard the characteristic 5-7 grunt squawks, looked in the loo; lo & behold there, sitting proud as a peach, is her majesty positioning her new egg. I will now have to do an acrobatic routine to access & exit the shower for the next 28 - 32 days, until she realises that infertile eggs don't hatch. She has a mate, however doesn't accept him? I think she has chosen the human as the mate, and not the bird.... maybe one day she'll be a mama, and a proud one at that! Silly girl!

She has not yet been successfully "honeymooned" with BG, the male Ara Ararauna. If she can do the parthenogenetic thing, then maybe.

I carry her to her cage so she can relieve herself, & of course carry her back so she can get back to brooding. I've placed food & water in with her, but mostly she waits for the formula from the syringe. Understandable, in that if she were pair bonded, the male would be regurgitating to feed her. It is a little surprising to be brushing one's teeth & to suddenly feel her trying to preen one's legs. It is enough to nearly cause one to accidently stick the toothbrush up one's nose!
