My pionus Cosmo

Cosmo my pionus has a behavioral change and I think it was from a grooming session. He has gone from flesh eating pionus to a sweet baby.
I had a groomer in for a bird club meeting to show proper grooming techniques. Usally I groom my own birds but Cosmo has a nail that curls into the foot at a funny angle. plus I need help clipping him so he was pretty much fully flighted again. So I told the groomer she could use him as an example. He has not been out of my house since I rescued him ( except for moving) , I always had the vet do house visits.
So a room full of people I guess was a shocker to him. Since then he has had a major attitude change. In the past I could touch him and pet him but had to watch out for sudden attacks. he attacked strangers and my hubby on sight. Now he is a cuddly boy with me and showing no aggresion nor any sign of it. My husband is petting him and Cosmo let my friend pet him today. Though trust me on the fact I am still very wary when holding Cosmo.
I am watching for signs of illness but he is eating good and his poops are fine.
I don't know if it was the shock of being groomed in front of forty people or the fact that I took him from his house and then actually brought him home again. He is a changed bird right now, I sure hope this is not a honeymoon all over again.

Lets hope its not! You may have actually scared him and made him think he might be going home with one of those forty people, and subjected him to being trimmed by a stranger in front of all those scary people, then brought back home to the comfy and saftey of home, and realised he was really loved!

In any event, he is a gorgeous birdy!

Thanks Monica,
It would be nice if this was Cosmo's permanent attitude. He is just so sweet right now! I was thinking along the same lines, just maybe he realizes I love him and I am going to keep him no matter what he does.

You know... this makes me want to take my Pionus woody to get his wings / nails clipped. Hes been extra agressive towards me whenever my wife comes home. I used to take him to the clippers and he would seem like he had been scared straight, of course back then he didnt used to give me much trouble.

hmmm....

Well, all I know is that anytime my birds are approaching fully flighted status, along with the feathers comes the attitude. And, usually just after a good trim, they do seem better mannered. I suppose to the PETA folks, that's all about being frightened into submission. I don't know and I'm not gonna start another thread along those lines, but it does seem to make them wake up and smell the coffee.

There is also what I think is called the 'rescue scenario'. The bird is aggressive...but then you come and 'rescue' it from a frightening situation and they consequently think of you in a better light, so to speak...
