need some advise for someone overseas with sick Grey

Hoping some of our self taught experts pop in here....JOHN???
this is a cross post, and I wanted imput to try to help...I am not familiar with this, and was wondering if anyone out here might have a clue as to what this could be????

Post 1
hi, about two weeks ago i noticed my husbands Grey had orange on the corners of her (mouth.) after watching her for a bit i realised she was very uncomfortable, trying to scratch her beak inside and out on just about anything, so to make a long story somewhat shorter we rushed her to the only avian vet in this country (belgium) i think. they kept her for almost three days did anesthizer her and did x-rays and bacterial tests. they found a bacteria and gave us some red liquid to put on the sides of her beak 2X's a day. that was 2 weeks ago. i can still see a faint tinge of the orange and want others opinions. the bigest problem here is the language barrier (our fault, kinda) they speak french and we only speak english. what should i do, take her back again? oh btw they said she is otherwise a very healthy girl and we had them chip her too while they had her under. thanks for alls help.

Post 2:
well Kola is back at the Belgium vet and we are still not sure what is up with our little girl. The receptionist at the vet clinic where i work called there Fri because we were told when we took her back there on Tus. that she should be able to come home on Fri. She didn't get to and when the lady that called for me spoke with the vet i was busy with surgery in another room so i wasn't there beside her to ask the ?'s i would of like to. Now they are checking her for something that has to do with the thickness of her beak is the closest thing i could find out from talking to Fracnious. anyone got any idea what that might be? i tried to look it up and couldn't find anything spelled even close to the way she wrote the word. (Again damn language problems) We are hoping to bring her home now Tues. because the vet said that was how long it would take for the culture to grow if that helps anyone to know what it is we are loojking at, and they wanted to keep her until then. That might just be because we told the vet we had been having trouble getting the meds on the spot and maybe he feels they can do a better job of it than we can. Either way or reason we want our baby home, its not that we don't have faith in this vet, because we do we just miss her terribly. i don't think my Smoky does but he sure has been alot more cuddly lately, like he's trying to make up for her being gone (still no nicer to his Daddy) Does anyone know where the closest avain vet is to Great Falls MT? That is where we will be in another 2 months and want to be prepared, sure have discovered that not all vets are alike!!!

I would suggest that you have your vet fax whatever test results they have to a vet here in the States. There are many to choose from. I use Dr. Donald Zantop and his telephone number is (410)877-1727. I think that from what is described that a certified avian vet will likely need to be consulted to get the job done. Zantop is one of the best there is. Good luck.

If she would like I could get any French text translated for her, (if layman terms are used) perhaps send me a PM with what the bird may have.

Send a message via Yahoo to Beaks
Report

If the report is in english have her send me a copy and i will let you know what it points to.

It could be a fungal/yeast infection, Candida albicans, Aspergillus among a few more nasties but i would guess that it is a fungus or a yeast like growth.

John

That's good. I may also be able to find her a vet in the Netherlands, which is close to Belgium. Both being VERY small countries it may not be far for her to go. I think the Dutch vet would be fluent in English, the majority of Dutch people are.

Am I reading the post correctly? Will she be returning to the states with her bird in 2 months? Would you check with her to see if she has initiated ANY of the paper work required to bring the bird into the states? Especially since it may be sick. She may have problems getting the paperwork and I know that there will be a quarantine when she gets back. Hopefully, she is already aware of this and has everything in order to bring her bird home with her.

'Ok...the emails went through and she has the info you all posted as well as the Question about the paperwork.
Seems the vets there are leaning towards Aspergillosis.
I'll let ya'll know what happens..thank you all for your help.
I also sent her a link to this topic.
