My poor Quinn
Quinn the Quaker baby ran into trouble the other night.
My bluecrown conure Duke is the Jester of the house. He thinks he is the center of attention and loves to entertain guests. In fact when Guests come over he is the first to come out and entertain everyone. He has always gotten along well with the whole flock. He is also devoted to me and been my velcro bird for five years now. Well since the quaker babies have started mingling with the flock Duke has had a bug up his butt and I have had to watch Duke around the quakers. When guests come over they all want to play with the quakers and are not paying as much attention to Duke. On top of that he is faced with these two cute as a button babies, who imitate his laugh, talk better then he does and want to spend their time crawling all over me. The other night Duke pulled a sneak attack on Quinn. Duke got on the floor, crawled up the back of the chair I was sitting in, grabbed Quinn by the leg and threw him to the floor. Quinn has two wounds in his leg and has not been using his leg at all. A vet exam today showed no broken bones or dislocation. His leg is just badly bruised and he probably has a punctured muscle. He is on anti inflammatories for pain and swelling. Now what to do with Duke. Right now I am locking him up when the quakers come out to socalize with the flock. I feel terrible but I have to get the message through to Duke that what he did was bad, This was not a bird squabble but a dirty sneak attack with intention of harming one of the babies. I hope Duke gets the message. Lynda

I have been keeping Duke separate now. But I am hoping maybe he will calm down as the quakers become part of the flock. I am not a breeder, the quakers are pets. I have not had this problem before with my conures. They are pretty easy going about other like size birds. Lynda

Duke may change his mind down the road. It's hard to tell what goes on in their head, but you may see him get along. It may just be jealousy. He is your velcro bird--my velcro bird (love that expression) is my sennie. She hangs on my shirt and won't let go and goes everywhere she can with me. My sennie is jealous whenever I handle another bird.

Oh no! The mighty Quinn has been ambushed!! Feel better soon lil' guy!
I have jealousy issues at my house too.... I'm afraid that with that big of a size difference, you may always have to seperate. I have mine out together but take precautions so one can't get the other.... it's usually Tiki trying to eat Niki at my house. Goose took it a little too far, I'm sure you've seen me post on her before. She now lives with friends and has for over a year. She is truely their's and thrives in their home as an only bird. But she had such a one tracked mind that she was going to eat Tiki that it was ridiculous! A SUN CONURE that tried to eat a Macaw. Stupid! lol. She was devious about it too.... way too dangerous, and way too dedicated to her cause. I'm not saying your situation will turn into this, she had it out for Tiki from day one, it just got to the point where it was too bad and too dangerous.

Thanks Dana,
There really is not a huge size difference about fifty grams max. Our brownthroated conure Ollie is smaller then a tiel and once when I got him in the bowl and weighed him he weighed out at eighty five grams. Yet no one messes with Ollie. Even my largest nanday takes a step back when Ollie shows up on the playgym. Now Goose is just a sun conure pure and simple LOL. Daring and bold just like their colors. I could see my sun conure Savannah going after a macaw and trying to eat it. Lynda Quote:
