Here comes MsSmurfy trying to find a "Forever_Home"
I haven't been here for a lil while & have missed interacting..I really have some catching up to do , I beleive!! Well, I hope it is OK, that I post this here for all to not only see BUT hopefully pass the word around! Every once in awhile, I help my friend Terry 'try' to find foreverhomes for some wonderful birds! So far, we have fulfilled many hearts & that is what I love about simply helping these birds be placed in a wonderful loving , compassionate & forever_home once & for all! So I thank you for listening!!
Hello to all~ I have someone who would like to re_home their parrots, as they are initially birds retired from Parrot Jungle (South Florida)! I hope somebody may be interested OR maybe even know of someone who is interested. Here is a little info on the two birds: Hybrid Macaw that looks like a Scarlet (without Yellow in wing) has a birth date of 1986. Has always been in good feathering, nothing negative to see in her records. Other Hybrid is a result of the Sire (Scarlet x Military) and the Dam (Scarlet). Hatched at PJ(Parrot Jungle) in 1977. Records say the bird is missing one toe on left foot. Nothing else of note in the records. There are also photos I have which are quite large so I will simply send them to those who request & can handle the large jpeg. You may contact Terry >> TT1cowgirl@aol.com Terry is well_versed on all birds etc...she is extremely interested in finding a GOOD home for these gorgeous birds! There are 2 macaws retiring from Parrot Jungle that I might have told you about, Mango and Eartha. They live together and are pretty birds. They are $600 each. I am merely helping Terry (who works within & even outside the US) diligently trying to place birds AND she also can place "together" the exact person & bird or vice~versa upon requests!!!!! I DO NOT make any money whenever I am posting any info about re_homing birds. I simply do this out of the kindness of my heart, hoping to at least be an avenue to spread the word! Thank you for listening~ and lets ALL hope & pray these birds find a forever home oneday soon! MsSmurfy...aka...MsSmurfy!

You would think that such an organization like Parrot Jungle would keep all their birds after retiring them from the shows etc. and continue to give them a "forever home" THEMSELVES right on their own spacious grounds (Island). They certainly can afford to and remember those birds probably helped make Parrot Jungle lots of money over the years so I personally think Parrot Jungle OWES them birds (((((BIG-TIME))))). IMO, they should not be selling or giving them away to the public who will probably turn around and pass them on to someone else eventually and so on & so forth.......
I am not saying that IF A WONDERFUL FOREVER Home can truly be found where the birds can fly in a huge aviary etc., on acreage where their calls will not bother anyone, that maybe relocation should not be done as long as the new keeper has the time to give these retired birds daily adequate & proper human interaction, diet, care, sunshine, etc...... However, in most cases IMO, these birds most always take a step down in general care, housing, professional health care, diet, etc. and wind up cliipped in a small cage in someone's dark stuffy home rather than outdoors in the fresh & humid air with natural rain showers etc............. Ok, I'm done..........JMHO Btw, nothing personal to anyone here wanting to acquire these birds, I'm sure you are the exception to everything I said above but I was only commenting in general & IMO....... :) |

well, at least they're looking for qualified owners....not just giving them away to anyone that wants a parrot...though I see where you're coming from.

Boy do I agree with you on THIS one! That's totally disgusting. I'm quite furious. What, is this now gonna become a problem like retired greyhounds?
I'll NEVER go to or support anything that Parrot Jungle now does or will in the future. As a matter of fact, I think I just might point this interesting fact out to every damn board I post on. Ms. Smurfy, please don't think I'm bashing you or your friend. I'm just totally outraged by Parrot Jungle. Joel has NEVER been more correct in his life. THE OUTLAW :x

well, at least you know (if I happen to get one) that it will have a good home, not just someone off the street....and if I get into a situation...I always have y'all to help :D
I've always wanted a Maccaw of my own! I know nothing personal was meant...I understand where you were coming from. But since they've already decided that this is what they're gonna do, I would like to offer a good home to one.

Darn, I was just finishing a long post on this subject and accidently smashed the keyboard with my hand and lost it!!!!!! Dang it!!!!!!
Don't think I can repeat it Nancy but in general I was saying that I too may never go to Parrot Jungle now because of this subject. I also tried my best to contain my anger Nancy. I also have nothing against Ms. Smurfy or her friend as their hearts are in the right place, sounds like. I say "may never go" rather than WON'T GO because I may be dragged there by some visiting relatives someday but I can assure you I will not spend one red cent there other than admission, if even that. I will try and get some passes from someone around here so I can keep them from even getting our admission dollars. I am fairly close to that place and had been wanting to go for awhile now, since they recently opened there on Watson Island having moved from their old home. I too Nancy, feel the same way about the Greyhounds. Let me tell you a story about the dog tracks too: One day, many years ago, I was at a local Dog Track and a race had just started. Well, coming around the first turn a dog was pushed into the railing by the others and did sommersalts (sp?). The darn crew ran out to grab the dog or YANK him up I should say in a hurry before the other dogs came around the track. They didn't want to disrupt the race any further ya know Darn I'm so mad at the moment remembering all that now, after all these years, that I could just POKE Crebain ONE!!!!!! J/K Phil, when will I ever learn to be serious all the way thru a post......Almost made it this time.............The story by the way is true :( . |

OOOhh JOEL....I sincerely 'respect' your feelings & anger!! Without a doubt! I also went to the dog track> ONE TIME in Bonita Springs, Fla....and NEVER AGAIN will I go back! I have NO DESIRE to partake in ANYTHING like racing etc because >>YOU ARE correct. the abuse and the no 'feelings' for God's creatures nauseates me...even at that dog_track there were human/animal rights people there, with 'retired' racing greyhounds....pleading for a place to live & simply retire ,so as to enjoy life's simplest pleasures without demand!!!!! I certainly can "feel" the emotion....So please KNOW...that I ONLY am trying to help place these poor creatures in a forever home...one which will be their happiness & fulfillment for the rest of their lives! By the way, these two birds DO come directly from an outstanding & notorious veterinarian, whom Terry & I work through the best we can...even have taken the time to meet at such vets office, see birds checked, & then follow thru with two families interested...one who must "let go" (with tears & heartbreak) & the other anxious to touch, feel & know the birds demeanor!!! It is an awesome sight...very emotional to say the least!! BUT>> if I am going to help Terry EVER re_home any birds....I shall do so...KNOWING that a genuine, compassionate & loving home has been found....I personally do NOT partake in EVER placing ANY of the birds I mention here into the hands of breeders...etc....nor am I ever paid $$$$$, I wholeheartedly, want to give the birds what they are entitiled to....PLZ know that these birds may indeed have been retired from Parrot Jungle for many~ many years...and their owner right now, is not affiliated with Parrot Jungle etc....simply hoping to find a forever home....I do HOPE that my reputation will be recognized out here based upon the "POSITIVE" that comes from seeking happy Forever_homes...I AM NOT any type of bird broker or breeder or anything else like that...I am simply one who cares.... Thanks for all your feedback...I DO respect your thoughts & opinions....BUT I shall ALWAYS work towards settling these innocent feathered ones into a HAPPY/LOVING forever home!!!

I repeat Ms. Smurfy, we know YOUR heart is in the right place and I hope you do continue to place birds in wonderful forever homes once they get to you & your friend. We were just angry at Parrot Jungle, not you at all but I do hope you agree as it sounds like you do and if ya ever get a chance to speak to those people at P.J., I hope you will ALSO say something about them passing birds on for free or for money, especially into the hands of someone who has not been THOROUGHLY checked out (by themselves IMO) to include a visit to the home and some kind of test as to the new keeper's abilities to provide a great & knowledgeable home (hopefully forever) both presently and in the future, after examining all factors with a magnifying glass IMO.
I just see absolutely NO REAL JUSTIFICATION for them doing that however(should keep themselves IMO) but maybe I am missing something & would like to hear from their mouths just what that may be. I will ask them myself when I get the chance in person, hopefully sooner than later........ I think you provide a wonderful service for the birds. Must be really hard & time consuming to check out new keepers properly. My hat is off to you & your friend......... |
