We ain't afraid of no cats!

Here's a funny story for you from the haven for wayward animals I call home.

I have a big picture window in my living room. At certain times of the day, the sun shines directly in it. The girls live in the living room, and Sam and Simon are in there as well. Most afternoons, you'll find at least two or three cats laying on the floor in a patch of sun from this window. I don't worry too much about it, the cats don't bother the girls, and the girls don't bother the cats. They couldn't be more uninterested in each other most of the time. (and when I'm not home, everyone gets crated so...)

Sam and Simon are used to living with cats as well. Sadly, their cat brother was lost in the same fire that made them homeless. What I didn't know was that they interacted with their cat.

So, this particular afternoon, all six of our cats, plus the two I'm cat-sitting for my g'mother while she is in the hospital have made a huge pile of multicolored fur on the floor. It resembles a big lumpy rug that purred, no kidding.

Anyway, I don't let the birds out when the cats are in the living room. I mean, I pretty much know the cats aren't going to bother them, but why tempt fate, ya know? So, Simon has learned how to unlatch his cage. But I didn't know that at the time. He unlatched his cage, evidently unlatched Sam's cage , and then unlatched Sunny's as well.

I hear a huge yowling-screeching-screaming-hissing commotion from the back of the house. I sprint to the living room to find the three feathered amigos standing amongst the mass of cats (who are at various positions in the room, hanging from the curtains, under the couch, trying desperately to climb the wall and get away from the huge red thing that's attempting to sever it's tail, etc)

Sunny had black cat fur hanging from her beak. Sam had my g'ma's chinchilla treed on top of a lamp, and simon was circling the stray kittens we took in that had tried to hide under the table.

I have since added a lock to Simon's cage door.

Poor kitties.

It was funny. I'm really lucky no one got hurt though. It could have been bad for both sides. Fortunately, Sam and Simon were just trying to play. Dave says they often 'played' with his cat. Sunny I think was just under a lot of peer pressure. LOL.

Oh my... that's priceless!!! (and lucky, as you said, but since everyone's ok, LOL)

Niki goes into full battle cockatoo pose and tests the upper limits of her sound power when she sees a cat. I don't have one anymore :-{ .... but mine used to be deathly afraid of her, and the ones that pass by the back door still are. I have no doubt that a cat would lose a battle with my birds, but have NO desire to find out. lol

My caique says "here kitty kitty, meow" and the cats walk up to him, he latches onto one of the cats tails and laughs as they run from him. Our poor cats, terrorized by the birds. Isnt supposed to be the other way around, LOL

LOL! That would be priceless!

I honestly don't know what my cats would do, as I know that the male cat, Squirt has killed an adult male quail when he was only 4 months old. It's Sprite however that I worry about most since she's always trying to find a way into my room to terrorize the little birds. Now with Noel and Casey cage-free especially, that only makes it even more scarier! However, once while I was away, it may have been possible for Sprite to have been in the room for over 24 hours and no one knowing about it! Luckily, everyone was fine!

However, when she does sneak into the room, Noel is sure to tell me about it! She screams and hollers until I come to the rescue to take that 'nasty cat' out of the room! Of course, I don't blame her since she was once attacked by a ferret, though she seems to have no problems with dogs (even a dog the size of a cat.... hard to say for sure however). Sprite however is getting smarter and finding hiding places that I can't find her in, even though there really are no good hiding spots in my room! She's a little twerp!

Well, that's what I always heard, but it sure isn't like that around here.

It's rather enlightening when you see your two pound B&G with a clump of your 20 lb cat's hair hanging from it's beak.

Dana:

Your house sounds more and more like **********. We have no cats to torment, but all of mine delight in driving my Aussie nuts. They have been landing on that poor dog for many years. She is like their personal taxi.

I had no idea you had so many dogs, cats and birds. Your house must be huge! Or, perhaps you live on a ranch?

Outlaw,

I really don't have that many animals. Only the animals in my sig are mine. Well, plus four more goldfish that my son just got. The other four dogs, and Sam and Simon belong to Dave, my friend whose house burnt down. And I babysat my g'mother's two cats for a few days while she had surgery in the hospital, but they've since gone home. I don't expect that Dave's dogs and birds will be here much longer either.

And yeah, a big house, 3800 sq ft, and a big yard, but it's in a suburb at the edge of town. I WISH I lived on a ranch!
