Toy suggestion?

Hi again,

I'm looking for a certain type of toy for Humphrey, and I wonder if any of you know of something appropriate. Humphrey likes finding hidden treats. He's such a forager (typical of his species, apparently). I'd like some kind of toy in which I can hide a few sunflower seeds for him to find when I go out. He's not the most clever bird in the world (bless him) so it can't be to difficult to work out. Can anyone think of any toys you've seen or have that may be suitable?
Thanks
MIchele and Humphrey

I love that idea - especially imagining Outlaw's macaws rippinginto their bags...but I just don't think Humph could figure them out. He's also not really a chewer or a destroyer, so don't think it would occur to him to bite the bag open. I need somthing that I can show him when I put the treats in, and then he knows where to try to get them

hey michele, brodie is the same as humph but brodie loves to destroy things there is a new toy out that is a donkey or parrot its made of crepe paper and inside its full of treats and has a toy in it too. but as you say humph isnt much of a destroyer so have to got any old wooden blocks? i had a couple of brodies and i drilled little holes in them and placed sunflower seeds inside as soon as i fill it he has managed to demolish the seeds within seconds. its cheap and you can recycle his old blocks....... :D hope this has been of some use to you and humph

Michele:

Just save your little cardboard jewelry boxes that pins and earrings come in. Cut little access holes and fill the boxes with treasures. A little scotch tape, and that's all you need. Don't spend money on silly toys that last forever but the birds ignore. Let them help you recycle all of your junk.

Hi:
If you take a piece of cardboard and cut x's in it with an exacto knife you can put peanuts, almonds, dried fruit, twigs, etc. in it .You can use a paper punch and make holes to tie a shoelace up or put rope through and tie a button or wooden bead on either end so that the bird can pull the lace from side to side but it won't pull through the hole. You can put carrot sticks, celery sticks.etc through the holes. You can twist up paper and put it through the holes. When your bird is finished with the treats he still has the cardboard to chew.Endless possibilities.Hours of fun for your birds.Cathy

I used to use old perscription bottles....and just cut out some holes in them and my bird could see the peanuts inside...certainly did not take long at all for mine to figure it out...simply tighten the cap with a hook & chain for it to hang, even rope will do just fine,,, your bird WILL figure a way to get the goodies out, even if it takes all day....I made sure the holes were offset & just slightly smaller then the nuts etc...so my bird had to work on getting the goodies out! It works well...
