Katrina-foster homes needed

To those who live in Louisanna, Missisippi and other hard hit areas. There will be a need for foster homes in your area. Contact bird clubs, the humane society and local animal control to see what you can do. If I hear of anyone looking for foster care I will post it here ( if nobody minds) . Please do the same.
I have a good friend who evacuated to Baton Rouge and has a large amount of birds. All have had good vet care and are disease free. She needs foster care in the Baton Rouge area. Please if there is anyone in that area who would be willing to help contact me at Lynjupiter@comcast.net

There will also be a need for bird food, cages, ACV and rescue remedy. I am working on where to send it so the Humane Society can distribute the needed supplies. Right now everything is a mess but I will have more info in the coming days.

ok, now I dont know how close I am. Im in south carolina!! BUT when you get orginized, I dont have alot of money but I can send a little bit. Maybe if you can accept money orders you can get it to where it needs to be??? If a bunch of us send just ten bucks I bet that would be a major help????
Let me know.

Angel,
I forgot to say Foster homes for my freind in Baton Rouge has to be west of N.O. going east right now is impossible for her.

I am trying to set up a supply line through a major organization. I will let you all know when I get something set up. Thank you! But I alos know private inidviduals that are pretty much trapped in N.O. and are going to need food in a week or two.

Thanks Blake,
The HSUS ( Humane Society of The United States) or what I call the National Humane society have my phone numbers, my email addy and are going to contact me as soon as they figure out the need . I told them I could arrange to have them sent food, cages and other bird supplies.

I have to wait a few more hours before I contact United Animal Nation.
I know the AFA here in Florida will help me out with getting supplies also. I just have to get an idea of the need before I contact them.

You know, we have been pretty much glued in front of the tv here watching all of the coverage on katrina!!!! My goodness I just cant imagine. I wish I could do more to help than I will be able to, unfortunatley we just all moved here from az in three seprate trips and then the car took a dump!!! Has put a serious damper on the budget. I have ten dollars in my wallet I was gonna buy a new toy for soda pop with, lol but his cage and tree looks like disney land. I know its not alot, and its embarassing to even admit thats what i have. As soon as you know where I can send it, it will be in the mail. Sorry it cant be more. I hope your friend finds a place. This is such a horrible thing for these poor people and animals to be going thru.

I have some spare cages -- large to small -- and would be glad to donate them. I know the logistics are difficult right now, but I have a friend who drives a route from Daytona Beach to New Orleans every week. I bet he'll be able to find spare room in his truck to deliver the cages.

Lynn, could you please let me know what you find out about who should receive the cages. In the meantime I'll talk with my friend. He obviously didn't drive his route this week but will probably be doing so again next week.

Katrina and birds

I am trying to save a little extra to get down there and help with the birds that need it.(mainly medical help and food)

I hope they start letting people in to help soon but until then i guess i will have a chance to get the boat engine running a little better just in case i need it when i do get to go.

I wish you could go. I heard a tragic tale about a rooftop rescue that left behind a budgie, a quaker and a baby BH caique. It was a lakefront home and the owners do not hold out any hope the birds survived. So tragic. Even if by some chance the water did not rise as high as the birds they won't survive more then a few days. The baby not even that. I don't think I would be able to leave my birds like that. I know human life is more valuable but I would spend the rest of my life thinking about the horrid way they died and what ifing myself to death.

Foster homes have been found for the birds. I also have a foster home near Panama City who are willing to take in numerous birds. They will be taking their large boat to Biloxi with supplies and can take any foster from there. So if anyone hears of birds needing foster homes please let me know.
