Question Is it possible for parrtos to hate a person...ON SIGHT?

I want to know 'cause everytime my bf's friend comes over, my tiriton 'too goes crazy...in a bad way! He tries to attack my bf's friend through the cage! Could it be that Lucky is REMINDED of someone who did him wrong in the past? OR, could it simply be that birds can tell whether or not they will like a person off the bat?

COMMENTS? SUGGESTIONS???

Thanks for reading!
Misty

Does this person wear glasses, or a certain hat, or a specific shoe, etc.? Any little thing can set parrots off. He certainly could remind your bird of something that happened to him in the past, or he dislikes his hair color, etc. Birds are very complex creatures and he may just not like your boyfriend's friend.

Well, he has facial hair...that's the big thing. No hats or glasses or nothing. And what's funny is, this friend is a birdlover with a cockatiel...so he's kinda depressed that Lucky doesn't like him. I didn't know what to tell the guy. Lucky never acted that way around my bf so it can't be gender favoritism. Oh, what the heck to I know?

Birds ARE COMPLEX little creatures...

Absolutely. I've seen it often. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with clothing, facial hair, colors or hats either. I think we have an aura and they see it. I've learned to trust my birds. Usually if they are uncomfortable around someone, I learn along the way that there is good reason to be.

Sometimes it may be associated with a past memory, maybe a smell, perhaps something we humans can't even fathom. And, it rarely changes.

Hi! This is interesting because my sun conure absolutely hates my son's girlfriend and has the same reaction you describe with your bird if she is around. Though she is a nice girl, I kind of wondered if the bird doesn't sense something in the girlfriend's nature that she can't quite trust? That was my thought anyway.

If a bird liked MOST people and took an instant dislike to a certain person, it would give me cause to wonder about that person. I think animals do have instincts about people.

It can be very possible that your bird having some bad memoris when he sees him, you just don't know.

But, trust your bird. If he doesn't like this person for a reason, there's well, a good reason. I've met birds so mistreated by there owners that they don't even like them. Birds know who to trust, and who to not trust.

I mean, you do have your occassional bird who just doesn't care who you are, there big and bad, and will bite your finger off in a heartbeat, but since you bird isn't usually like this, it's time to listen to him, and quistion this bird "enthusiast"

I have to disagree - Elwoodblue goes to almost everyone, however, he absolutely HATES my son! This is my flesh and blood we are talking about here! Elwood goes out of his way to attack my son - I am not sure what the problem is?!?!?!?!?!?

Laurie:

My little grey Radar hates my daughter. Stacey isn't into birds but has never been mean or nasty to them. Still, Radar despises her. I don't think that Radar should fear her, but I also know that Radar KNOWS Stacey isn't her benefactor either. In fact, if something happened to me, Stacey would happily rehome Radar and never bat an eye. And, I think that Radar knows that. The only bird in my house that really likes Stacey is Mai Tai, the Ekkie. Stacey has always loved her. Probably because she's so pretty and her colors are so vibrant. Poor little Radar is our less glamorous "little pigeon".

And, I don't think that birds measure virtue by the same standards that humans do. Using their criteria, I'm certain that some of us offend them in ways we aren't even aware. It could be our scent, for example. Who knows.
