is balsa wood safe?

I always buy Miss Spoiled Scarlett girl a new toy every time I go to a pet store. I recently bought her a "Bird Kabob" for some stupid price like $12 for a big chunk of balsa wood.

She has been making a lot of progress in demolishing it but I don't see any wood fragments on the bottom of her cage. She is probably eating it. Is this safe? She really loves it and is probably ingesting quite a lot daily.

Her poops are normal, she eats her food like a giant pig, she is active as ever. I just want to make sure that eating balsa is okay for her.

Thanks!

I bought one of these things for Mija and Rio for about the same price, then found them on Greyfeathers for $8. I ordered a few more from them as the fids loved it. Saved about $10 on 4 items even with shipping.

My birds LOVE them and have had no problems. And, I beat you all on the price. I found a vendor on Ebay and bought 10 for $30 plus $6 shipping. I'll look for the infomation.

Thumbs down

I found a site that does NOT recommend letting birds have access to Balsa wood for chewing. Here is the link:
http://www.santaclarapethospital.com/722667.html
Scroll almost all the way to the bottom for the list that says "Avoid" and there it is.
Sorry,
Linda & Skye~
