Goffin behavior

While wandering around a bird fair this weekend, we got pelted a few times with corn. Typical, you look around, see noone you know, then look for kids; still nothing. We then caught the culprit in the act. It was a young Goffin that the folks from the shop that had the display said was trying to store food by stuffing it between its feathers. At which I might add he was failing miserably. He would grab a piece of food, put his beak between his feathers and squeeze. With the pressure of his beak and the launch ramp provided by the wing, the item would fly about 10 ft and hitting anyone close. He'd just turn around grab another and try again. Anyone ever observed this with your birds?

My LSC plays a "shoulder" game. (I know he doesn't have a shoulder, so to speak, but that is what we named the game.) He picks up the tiniest little piece of anything he can get his beak on, places it on his "shoulder" and patiently waits for you to blow it off. When he can't find anything to play with, he will climb up my shirt and start pulling lint off. This game is his favorite, and if I ignore him he will lovingly nip at me!

hit the door

My female G2 does this all the time and it goes clear across the room and hits the door. My male just eats his food. She also drops the peanuts in front of her cage so the dog can have them. When the dog goes over she makes a grab for her tail. I'm looking into getting a large piece of carpet to put under the cages inhopes that the seeds won't bounch so far. Joan

Yup. A goffin I fostered once made up a game like that. Anything she could find, piece of lint, food whatever, she would put it on her shoulder, then preen herself, so that the piece of food or whatnot would fall off and she would have to catch it before it fell to the ground. If she caught it, she would look around proudly like, lookee what I did! Then start all over. would keep her occupied for HOURS on end. Too cute.
