Oh how I wish... B & G too cheap in San Diego

Any informed, caring, SO CA Birdboard takers? I don't know anything about this bird other than that they are selling it too cheap, and all too often that means impulse buying by the uninformed public, unless an informed person gets there first. They don't even know it's a Macaw and not a Maccaw.

I'd go pick him up tonight if I had less will power. It wouldn't be fair to Tiki.

even worse

This one may be even worse, I saw it locally and have been resisting the urge to call. Its an older ad so hopefully they found a good home.

Hello, I am a college student and just got a new apartment where my bird is not welcome. I need to find a good home for him really fast. He is $300.00 with temp. cage. He will make an excellent pet for someone with experience, and he talks up a storm! If 300.00 is too high for you on short notice, please email me with your offer and experience. I want a really good home for him. He is plucked but otherwise healthy.

Please email me if you are serious only. Thanks for your time.

I saw an ad in my local paper for a 3 yr. old male SI Ekkie for $250. As that is one of my dream birds, I was soooo tempted but I resisted. Now just isn't the right time.

I saw an ad in the paper for a cockatoo ( i think it was umbrella or moloccan I can't remember) for around $450 . It makes me sad to think of them but I know that I couldn't handle 2 big birds right now. But when I see the ads I just want to buy them and foster them until I find them a good home but I just can't. It makes me want to cry. All you can really do if you don't have the space, money, or time for them is hope they end up with a nice owner ( and maybe even someone that feels the same way we do and wants to grab them up before the wrong person gets them) that will give them a good life.

A couple of years ago, there was an ad here in the local papers for a female ekkie with cage and supplies going for $100. Most ekkies around here aren't even that cheap.

I could fly business class to the States and buy that macaw for less than what one would cost me here. If only I could get him past customs!

...put him in a little yellow vest and tell Customs (with a very straight face) that he's a Seeing-Eye Bird...

...and don't forget your dark glasses...

Speaking of Ekkies for a resonable price which need a good home. I have been talking with the person who posted this ad http://p076.ezboard.com/fthelandofvo...icID=661.topic

She is asking $300 but is very concerned that the bird go to just the right home. She (the bird) currently has stress issues from the small children in the house. I dont think my home with dogs and cats would provide the calm environment she needs but maybe someone here can give her a good home.

This is her description of Syndey
Let me tell you a little bit about our little girl vos - Sydney. She lives in our home with us and has a nice area, cage etc. In Dec of last year she started clipping her belly and neck feathers. We had her to the vet and basically after tons of tests, they told us it was hormonal or anxiety related. the only thing that we could come up with as far as something that would cause her anxiety is our 2 year old son who is now becoming more active and she CLEARLY doesn't like him near her. She allowed her feathers to return after picking them to just her grey downy feathers and now she is again cliping them off...ya know...they look like v's...so she's not pulling them, just chewing. She has TONS of things to chew, gets a good diet, etc.

Well, here's the deal with the Ekkie. I also have an Ekkie hen who plucks seasonally beginning in September. It drove me nuts until I came upon the solution: either add Avicalm or Pluck No More (King's) to every water change. It has stopped my hen's plucking. I'm currently using it and I cannot tell you how relieved I am.

As for dogs and children bothering ekkies, my hen loves little kids and the dogs have never been a problem. She doesn't like the noise from my macaws, however.

SI hens are considered to be choice. I hope this little girl gets a great home. In the meantime, someone should tell the current owner to try these supplements. It may in fact be the solution to the problem.
