Odd FS lighting question

In contemplating new cages for the fids the wife and I really want to get ones with play tops. I have a 4ft twin tube lamp with full spectrum bulbs above the cages but that would be blocked by the playtops. Will the reflected light from the wall behind the light and cage still be benificial or should I consider a different lighting setup or cage style?

If you get a playtop with a slide out tray you can always take it out when the birds are in the cage. JMO

I had one like that for my CAG and I always took mine out even before I had FS lighting, he hated that being covered up by the floor of the playtop.

yeah, it does seem like it would make things feel more closed in and claustrophobic. I will have to check out the one Im looking at and make sure it it bars under the tray and not a solid top. Thanks again everyone.

I really like the dometop cages. It allows more room for the bird to play in and there is nothing hanging over their heads, so to speak. But that's just my preference.

I also removed the playtop tray from my macaw cage. Not because of lighting but because it was an extra surface that I had to clean. Now the poop just drops down to the bottom tray and I only clean up once instead of twice.

The problem with that is when they poop from uptop, it can fall on perches, toys, and theyir food dishes. So what I do is take the tray out when she is in the cage and put it in whenever she is on top of it. I also add a couple of newspapers on the tray so cleanup is real easy

I'm with you Blake :) I have a dome top for Skye and he likes it. But I really like it as there is room for his tent bedroom without it taking up precious room in his cage for it!!!
Plus he doesn't really like to play on his cage anyway...he prefers me, his hanging gym in the dining room or his dad...LOL. He's spoiled eh?

Why don't you lay a few papers on top instead of the top. We did that for our African Grey and he liked it much better!! Just a thought.
