crock pots?

I'm pretty sure I know what the answer to this one is--but I just wanted to double-check.

I have a Rival crock pot and the website says that the crock is coated in "quick rinse" finish. I'm assuming that this is some Teflon-type compound which means that I must part with my beloved slow-cooker.

I emailed Rival's customer service and hope to hear back from them soon but I figure that the experts here on the board would have the answer for me.

thanks!

Boy that sucks. I think mine is a ceramic crock type. whew. But we do have a waffle iron we use alot, well, actually David uses it alot. He gave it to me for a birthday present one year, and it included a life time a waffles made for me! I've yet to use it! We haven't used it much since we've gotten the birds though. cause I'm scared to. same with the George forman!

I didn't even think of this. I need to go check mine right now. I don't want to part with my crock pot. :-( I love my crock pot :-( But if it has to go before I get a bird, it has to go.

I know me too! I love mine. It's great to come home in the afternoon and smell dinner cooking!

Ive been looking around on this one ever since you posted. It does indeed seem the Rival quick rinse is a teflon compound.

All is not lost, they are very proud of this quick rinse compound so they advertise it heavily, therefore if you can find one of their pots that does not advertise it, it probably doesnt have it (they have at least one listed on their website without the quick rinse) Proctor silex also makes crock pots and their product specs list if it has a non stick coating or not, they also have a few models without the coating.

Im lucky that I have an ancient crock pot sans coatings :) Unfortunately its one of the smaller models and I have really been wanting to upgrade. Im glad you brought this up as its made me aware to look for something I otherwise might not have considered. Now if I could just convince wifey to get me a nice set of the tradional Calphalon for christmas ;) It actually terrifies me because all the family knows I like to cook and they like to get me stuff but they dont consider the teflon factor so I end up with alot of unusable things. Actually as much as I bust her chops about a nice Calphalon set I think I may just go to good old cast iron...once its seasoned right its great stuff and you cant mess it up :)

Is it safe to leave a crockpot on at home all day when no one is at home? I have been tempted to get one as long as it is teflon free and fool proof from the cooking side but I don't like the idea from a fire safety point.

My mother enjoys using her rival crock-pot as well (inside piece is ceramic), which of course also have the rinse-clean easy stuff, though they don't make the brand that she uses still (atleast from what I can tell on the website). The main thing that I don't like about it is that it burns food and sometimes the food comes out worse than expected-though rarely. My mother usually uses her crock-pot overnight or through the day... she just gets it ready, puts all the ingredients in, sets it, and leaves it alone till either she gets home, or wakes up in the morning...

I would suppose though that since they are slow cookers and are not made to cook foods at an extremely high temperature that it MIGHT be safe in the end... wouldn't know for sure though...

I was worried about this too. Then my sister pointed out that you leave your refridgerator plugged in all day. She even leaves the house when the oven is on. I was still a little nervous about it so I used it first on a Saturday and left it while I ran some errands knowing that I would be back in a little while. It didn't get real hot on the outside and it made a GREAT pot roast. Enjoy!!

My boyfriend was yelling at me saying I'm paranoid and we have an exhaust fan right over the stove--which is always his excuse when he uses the 2 teflon pans we have. Oh and Scarlett is in the room furthest away, as if that is supposed to make me feel better.

Many many times I've filled mine at 6am and turned it on low at 6:45am when I leave for work and let it go until 6pm at night for dinner. I don't have any fears about fires but I do fear for my baby girl's life.

I'm so depressed, though. I was becoming a pretty bad-arse crockpot chef!

Dont get depressed just find one without the rinse clean coating. From the Rival site http://www.crockpot.com/SCR500GF.html This one is not advertised as having the coating so it should be ok.
