Question Does your bird fit his/her species description?

You know, labels such as "nippy" or "clownish" that people use to generalize the nature of different kinds of parrots?

So my question is.. does YOUR bird act like the general characteristics for his/her species?

KC definately does - shes a true parrotlet. Chloe also fits the bill of "parrotlet". Though my lovebird, Alex, doesn't really fit what some people say about lovebirds - he's really more laid back and not too hyper/nippy as many other lovebirds tend to be.

Pahgi is described in one word - lorikeet. He fits his species desription quite well. My conure Pickle is nothing what people say conures - he is the most serious bird I have ever met.. I suppose thats most likely because of his troubled past, and its expected. Hopefully one day he'll come around.

So what about you?

My budgies, bourkes, and cockatiel all fit their description of their species.

Now Noel, she's quite different! Cherry heads are said to be playful, love to cuddle/very affectionate, active, trouble makers, etc...

Noel chews, but she does not play. She loves kisses, and occasionally headscritches, but is not one for affection. She is most active when outside on her apple tree, but is otherwise very calm and secluded. Noel a trouble maker? Might as well be telling me its raining cats and dogs (literally). She's not a clown, she doesn't get into things, she's not really ever moody, only occasionally nips...

Noel did however come from a very horrible past (being attacked by a ferret, then not getting enough toys or attention, let alone a good diet, for 5 years) so this probably does contribute a lot to it, though sometimes it seems as if I am missing something because I hear about all these other birds that turn around within a few months of coming into a new and better home. I must always remind myself that she's simply not like them.

My budgies and tiel do fit their descriptions. but my Princess of Wales Parakeet, is a little off. He's not as laid back as "suppose" to be. Now he does for the most part get along fine with the others 3, as long as they don't bother him while he eats. he will NOT be bossed around by the budgies. I guess for that matter Tinkerbell won't let the budgies boss him around either! So maybe they aren't all as "described!"

Nope.

Okay, so my cockatiel probably does, but there aren't many birds easier to stereotype than the cockatiel.

But my 'zon (BFA) is quiet, peaceable, and an incredible pushover. She lets my cockatiel boss her around, which is quite the opposite of any other amazon I've known... though, to be fair, I only know one other BFA. Maybe it's a BFA thing?

And forget about senegals being quiet birds. Mine is the noisiest little chatterbox I've ever met :) He fits the other poicephalus stereotypes, though; great immitating sounds and definitely overbonded to me.

But I voted 'no' because if I picked up any of my bird books and read the stereotypes for those two birds, I would expect my birds to be different than they really are.

I think that my birds are pretty much classic. They all fit the descriptions generally give them, yet each is still an individual. Of my 4 BGs, all are very much as described, but I can recognize each one without any problems just by listening to them and watching how they do things.

My biggest surprise was my Yellow Nape Amazon. She is so sweet. I was quite nervous about adopting a "devil zon" but boy did she blow that theory out of the water.

My cockatiel fits his species description pretty well. My cag also does for the most part, although she doesn't have the initial fear of toys, etc., like is supposedly typical of greys. I show her something new or put a new toy in her cage and she is right there checking it out.

Right down to the tip of his beak!!!

Sunny is as stereotypical as lovies come. He's playful and loving, while being bossy and stubborn. He also has the classic "big bird in a little body" syndrome! He's always on the go, like he's on some secret mission but doesn't quite know what it is!!!lol Of course it all pays off when he lets me scratch his little head... all though he'll only let me do it on his terms!!!

My tiels do for the most part. Chaska is maybe sweeter and less agressive than Quakers are supposed to be. She can be territorial, but she will tolerate Manu walking on her cage.

Peachie- Didnt know you lurked here as well! haha, anyways, off to the subject, I already answered it on the other board, but here it goes!
NO! Higgins is the exact opposite of all species descriptions I have read on caiques. He can sooo loud I can hear him outside with all doors and windows shut. He has a vocabulary of 40-100 words (all species descritions say caiques only speak up to 5 words) and he only bounces when he is mad, not playing or trying to get somewhere quicker. He does skip tho, its extrememly cute!
He really isnt that big of a chewer, and its really hard to keep him interested in toys because he is so dang smart, I have to change his cage around about every week or he gets board and wrecks havoc!
Thats my demon child in a nutshell, lol :)
Wouldnt have him any other way!
