Avian Flu

http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/10/06....ap/index.html

I am really starting to worry about this avian flu. Not the flu but the goverment's concern over it. Does anybody else worry that if it does spread to the US that mass extermination of birds is a real and honest threat? Not just birds but our parrots like what the California goverment does when END is found.

The first case found in the US and all my birds stay inside and I start making people disinfect before they come in the house. I will also post signs stating that I practice Bio Security. Will it help save my birds if a case is found in my area? Probably not, but it is worth a try.

if it reaches here, it will be because it is able to infect humans and then be passed on from human to human like our flu is. It may very well not be able to infect birds at that point.

That's why the president is talking about using the military to quarantine PEOPLE not cull birds.

I've posted a ton of info on another thread in this forum--bird flu pandemic is coming. http://www.birdboard.com/forum/thread11246.html

The Aussie authorities are very worried about this too. SO far it hasn't affect pet/aviary birds. But quarantine has gotten very strict and there is no way they will allow people to import even pet birds until this thing is sorted out.
