Saw this on news in Phoenix.
I feel for this guy, but the story as reported on the news is he takes the parrot to the bar and sets him on his perch outside to get fresh air from time to time. That's when he disappeared.
Pilfered parrot breaks man's heart 07:11 PM Mountain Standard Time on Thursday, October 13, 2005 By Mike Watkiss / 3TV reporter 70-year-old, Al Truster, brought his parrot, as he usually does, to the Detour Bar & Grill and set him on a perch outside near the front door. When Truster went to retreive Pete, he discovered his parrot was missing. "It has really hurt me bad," said Truster, "he's my baby... 46 years and he's gone." Pete, who has been with Truster 46 years, had apparently been bird-napped. "He'd bring the bird in all the time," said Lori, a bartender at Detour Bar & Grill. "[Pete] never hurt any body." "I don't like the idea that somebody could be so cruel,' said bar patron, Abby. "To take his bird, I mean, it's killing him. He doesn't have anymore life in him." Truster and Pete have been friends since his father brought the parrot back from a trip to Venezuela in 1959. Truster says he's offering an award for Pete's return, "I haven't got much, but I've got $100 for a reward," said Truster. "Please bring her back to me. I'll take care of you." http://www.azfamily.com/news/local/s....f0031a69.html

Hmmm. I remember a similar story this past summer about a man who had a cockatoo that he used to set outside on a chair of a sidewalk restaurant. It was believed that a lady saw the bird and just assumed it had landed there and was lost.
I thought the bird was reunited with its owner after the news picked up the story. Was this a cockatoo?

I just saw a quick glance during the report, I'm pretty sure it was an amazon.

I'm glad he got his bird back. It's a sad story, but I can't imagine taking my bird to a public place, setting him down outside, and just hoping he'd be okay. I've heard too many stories about exotics being taken out of homes to leave my birds unattended in public...

Unfortunately, I can't watch the video on my computer, but I am sooooo happy that this story had a happy ending. Thank God!

Pete is so adorable! I can only hope that Ollie and I have that good of a relationship 40 years down the road! Al and Pete are just too cute together!
