That's an excellent plan. If you are meant to have her, it will come. In the meantime, I'd try to meet a few. I think you'll soon understand what I'm talking about. After all, its very normal for me to go to any bird store and handle just about any bird they have without any drama. As Gary (Winged Victory) probably remembers from my earlier postings, I've given quite a lot of my own personal DNA to scarlets with that come hither look in their eyes.

What always fascinates me is how different their personalities are from the Greenwings. I know they aren't related, but most novices confuse them a lot of the time. You will get a very quick education on the difference if you assume its a Greenwing you're meeting and it turns out to BE a scarlet (LOL).

However, I'd like to take this opportunity to commend you on how far you've come in such a short period of time with your eclectus. You've learned well and have become very knowledgable about your bird. And, more importantly, you learned to manage the problems without running scared. That's the FIRST and most important step in working with the big birds. Bravo!

wow! thank you. I am absolutely in love with my Scarlett girl. I hate to admit it but she gives my 2 cats a run for their money and I have always been a cat person!

I love every minute that I spend cooking and cleaning for her, talking, whistling, playing, and dancing with her. I feel so lucky that the rescue trusted me with this amazing little redhead.

I have spoken with the rescue and asked if I had to go through the whole process again to adopt another bird. They said no as they still had my app on file. I told them I'd love another ekkie but a female may totally upset her and they'd never adopt a male to me just b/c of the breeding possibility. (not personal, that's just how rescue is) I told them that I was interested in African Grays b/c of Outlaw's recommendation. They told me to keep an eye on the available bird list and let them know what I liked. I'm going to try really hard not look at Paloma much more.

Don't let the low fee sway you. Its low for a reason. She will be difficult to place in a proper.

It isn't swaying me but it isn't an indicator of behavior issues or anything either.

Their max adoption fee is $450--for all birds ever.

I adopted Scarlett for $300 and that included her, her cage, toys, food, perches, etc. The larger birds are more but I don't think it's directly related to behavior--I think it's more connected to size.

I'm not contridicting you at all Outlaw, in fact, I've heard this same thing from several other 'macaw people' but it always makes me laugh because I have a scarlet (hannah) that is just lovely tempered and has actually never even bit me harder than a pinch and a GW (mickey) who would love to eat me for dinner! Extenuating circumstances of course, but still funny that my two are complete opposites of the norm.

Dana:

That's exactly the point. Unless they are really properly socialized, they quickly can become bullies and THAT'S tough to train out.

You really never know with any bird until you meet them and interact with them. However, its hard to realize too late that you've made a mistake and have to part with a bird. Especially one who has already had multiple homes.

FD has become a very adept parrot owner in a very short time. She is dedicated and careful about doing things properly. Knowing this, I'd like her to have the BEST possible chance of a wonderful relationship with the right bird. If her research and interaction with a few is positive, then a scarlet macaw is an excellent choice.

She isn't listed as available any longer. I don't see her on the Adopted page either but sometimes it takes awhile for them to pop up on there.
