Paloma is an adult Female Scarlet Macaw.
The macaw in the first posted link is an Ara Chloroptera, or in the US, a greenwing. I would have a suspicion of a place that couldn't even get their species correct.

However, if the only thing standing in the way of your giving this beautiful psittazen a good, lifetime home, is the fear of how your eclectus hen will react, go visit her to judge her temperment. I think you might find that Scarlett would be quite adaptable. Then she could have a (very) big sister to chat with while you are otherwise engaged.

I agree... If I had experience w/ large birds AND a better apartment/living situation I'd want to give Paloma a home but alas, it's the smaller/quieter birds for me...

The first link in the whole thread? Paloma? Really? That's funny b/c I thought that myself (after reading the Viridian Rose thread a few times) but figured they knew more than I about such matters since I'm such a novice.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Scarlett has impressed both me and the vet with her pleasant nature. We had a rough 1st month of transition together but she has been lovely ever since--even with my cats, my various foster cats, dogs, etc.

I am very interested in her. The boyfriend, on the other hand, requires some convincing.

Ara Macao, or Scarlet Macaws seemto get a lot of bad press. Certainly there are some who enjoy human tartar, but all of my psittazen companions (of the Scarlet persuasion) are snuggle monsters. O'Hara has an unfortunate predilection for attempting unnatural relations with the dorsal surface of my hand, if he gets a chance. Other than that (blech), he is very happy to snuggle, trill, & play. AyatLeila would be happiest if we were conjoined at (her) feet & (my) shoulder. If I walk out of sight, she is in flight to find me. Dare I sit at the keyboard too long? She is swooping in for a landing to make certain I didn't forget about her. Right now, she & Viridian Rose are deciding how to divide up my "perchable" parts, so that they can both be on me, without a fuss. This they have learned results in both getting to spend some time in their cages. Perhaps it is just a matter of luck. Personally, I think that casting your bread (love) upon the water (macaw), will result in it returning ten-fold.

I went back just to make certain.
Here is a picture of AyatLeila

& here is the picture of Paloma:

here is a picture of Viridian Rose:

note the identical colouration of the leading edge of the wings (viridian) on Viridian,& Paloma, in contrast to AyatLeila, as well as the ventral surfaces of the tail feathers, & the dorsal surfaces of the vent feathering. Their maxilla & mandible are identically coloured as well, the only strange thing is that her (paloma) facial patch appears bare. This could be because she rubs (a neurotic behaviour seen in some neglected or abused birds), or perhaps she was plucked by a cage mate. Lastly, it is possible that she is a hybrid, but not likely. *EDIT* After putting the picture of Paloma into an image enhancement programme, I am a bit troubled by her pronounced brush (the tightly packed feathers above the nares), and her periocular rings. The brush appears to be "humped" in the manner usually only seen in Ara Macao, scarlet, or Ara Militaris military macaws. The "bug-eye" periocular rings are also only seen in Ara Macao, scarlet macaws. On balance, without a better picture from which to judge I would have to say I'm leaning (50.5%) toward a Macao x Chloroptera hybrid. *End EDIT*

I wasn't questioning your opinion as you are a bona fide macaw expert--rather just looking to hear it stated again and in amazement that somehow I thought the same thing. Viridian Rose must have made an impression on me!

Her adoption fee is $400 which just makes me squirm and itch and twitch at the thought. The BF swears he isn't an animal lover and puts up quite a stink every time a new foster animal enters the house. It takes only a few hours, though, until he is cuddling with the dog/puppy/cat/kitten/whatever. We shall see! This may be a very affordable and rewarding Christmas present!

yehuda, I got a chuckle at how you wrote this especially how they want to divide up "your perchable parts"
