The Nkisi Project (telpathic CAG?)
Has anyone heard of this?
I saw this on an Animal Planet special about communication last night and thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. The owner brought her CAG up like a child, giving it a vocabulary and encouraging it to use it creatively to express itself. After a time, she began to suspect that the bird was reading her mind. She got the attention of behavior experts such as Jane Goodall, who took an interest in this case. (Goodall reported during her interview that although the bird had never met her, he had seen pictures of her. He correctly identified her as being a woman who works with chimps, having never before spoken the word 'chimp'. He then proceded to talk to her about the chimps and make chimp noises) An experiment was conducted in which the owner went into a separate room 55 feet away from the bird and looked at pictures. A camera was left on the bird, and another camera showed the pictures as the owner viewed them. The bird commented correctly on every picture as the owner was looking at them. Here's the full story: http://www.sheldrake.org/nkisi/ Read it! It made me think twice about getting away with any kind of trickery with my own fids.

That might have been what it was called. I was kind of halfway watching the program while I was working on some fact sheets. I wasn't really paying attention until they started talking about birds, LOL.
But yeah, that sounds about right. Amazing, huh?

Animals and small children... we don't give them enough credit.
I've been wanting a CAG for sometime. Hubby disagreed until he saw that program. He said "do all greys sound that clear when they speak?" and I said "well, it's what they're known for". Now he wants a CAG, too. Talk about wanting a bird for the wrong reasons! But at least now we agree on a possible future species, lol.

I had seen that Jane Goodall special a while back and I'm STILL in awe of that bird. It was absolutely amazing.
And, I also have a dog that found a skin cancer on the back of my right leg 3 years ago. It wasn't malinoma, but it was a cancer that had to be dealt with immediately. My Aussie, Joey, would not stop pestering me everytime she had access to the red and flaky patch on my leg. They are truly amazing creatures.
