I actually had a pretty scary experience with a red-tail hawk (or something of the sort) this summer! I let my pigeon out several times a week for a few hours during the day to exercise. She has a ball terrorizing the dogs and cats and having my dad chase her off the top of the suburban...
Anyways, Mollie being the first bird I have ever had outside, I never really thought about bird predators. All we really worry about is coyotes getting the sheep. Thank goodness my dad and I were both outside when a huge hawk dove at Mollie. We both started running toward them (Mollie was flying fairly low, probably 8 feet above the ground) toward us. Thankfully we made enough noise to distract the hawk (and scare the crap out of Mollie). He stuck around for a few days, but we havent seen him or any others since. It made me a lot more careful about keeping an eye on Mollie when I let her out!
