Bird book recommendations sought!

Mattie Sue Athan's books, Guide To a Well-behaved Parrot and Guide To Companion Parrot Behavior have been recommended to me.

Is one better than the other? Are they not worth my time?

I have a bad habit of buying just about every book out there and am trying desperately to break that habit hence the recommendation request!

Of course, if you have other books that you think are essential to anyone who shares their life w/ birds, please share!

Thanks!

"Birds for Dummies"
"Parrots for Dummies" are both really good.

If you want to get into training, check out "Clicker Training for Birds" by Melinda Johnson.

If you want to get deeper into training and be really really good at it, try "Don't Shoot the Dog" by Karen Pryor.

"Birds off the Perch" is okay, but it doesn't have anything in it that the other books don't.

The two that have already been recommended are awesome, cover-to-cover.

And, finally, if you want a great fiction read about parrots, I very highly recommend "The Awakening: A Tale of Avian Evolution" by Mark Jones.

Thanks Graestone for that list! I need to invest in a First Aid book like the one you have listed!
I recommend Bobbi Brinker's For the Love of Greys. I read it before I got Ollie, and I learned so much!

A friend of mine from another board has a picture of her birds in Parrots for Dummies. I remember when she submitted it and it got accepted. I submitted a bunch of pictures, too, but my birds just aren't as cute as hers I guess ;)

Well I think your birds are adorable! They probably would have sold more books had they used your pictures!

You can also get them on Ebay. Earlier this year, I got Joel's recommended book Handfeeding and Nursery Management by Howard Voren and Rick Jordan for $12-brand new condition too! I also got Gallersteins First Aid for Birds for really cheap too- $6 or something like that! Gotta love Ebay!

Never have too many.....that's why we all like EBAY. Heck we are probably all bidding against one another sometimes!! I don't have the same screen name there as here. So look out :) LOL
