Just call me Veg-o-matic

Well everyday all the birdies get fresh veggies. Ripley normally sits on my shoulder while I chop them up. Sometimes I allow him to be on the counter. Well today he was down there and decided that he was going to help me do the veggies. Here are the pictures

This is him going back to do more damage.

This is the mess that he made of the broccoli stem.

Look Dad I got it all done for you really fast

Ok now that I got all that done it's time for me to eat

I just thought that I would share how crazy Ripley can be at times

Awwww! Is Ripley a senegal? It's hard to tell. He's cute, and partially plucked... just like my Beeper!

My Beeper does the same thing if I let him in the kitchen while I'm chopping veggies. He is into EVERYTHING and has to sample every bit of food I'm working with. He rarely actually wants to eat it... he just wants to sample, shred, and move on.

Yes Ripley is a Sen. And what a SIN he is. He's one that we adopted and has had issues for the past three years before we got him. We're working with him to get him through the issues he has.

Oh, wow! Just like Beeps! Oh, the conversations we could have!

We rescued Beeper from his second home almost two years ago. He had all kinds of behavioral and physical problems from both of his previous homes, feather picking only being one of them. He's also a screamer and a biter... never bites me anymore (we're in LOOOOVE, lol) but he routinely flies at my husband and will attack him if he gets the chance. Doesn't really get along well with my other two birds, either. But he's come a long way in the past couple of years, and we have many years ahead of us to work on him. This will be his last home.

Despite his problems, he is my favorite bird in the whole world... and I know a lot of birds :) I can relate to him on a level I've never been able to relate to another living thing, and we have that connection... besides, he's just so darn cute!

What kinds of problems do you have with Ripley?

Are you sure we're not talking about the same bird. The only thing is that the roles are reversed. Ripley would go after my wife in a heart beat. We're working on that though. The person that we have been working with has made a lot of suggestions that are working. One being that she is the only one that gives him treats. Another is that she is to do all the things in and around his cages. Birds are like men "the way to their hearts is through their stomach" So she is the one that does all the things for him. I'm the one that will give him all the attention when out of his cage. It's cute because he has a day and a sleeping cage. Well the sleeping cage in in our bedroom. So first thing in the morning he gets to talk to the wife. They are getting better with each other which is nice. He has allowed her to scratch his head through the bars which is a big step.

Ripley comes from a home that had 8 birds. We now have 5 of those birds. Ripley the senegal, Chester the Gold Capped Conure, Darwin, Morgan, and Winston these are all cockatiels. Ripley and Chester are just alike. They both hate women. But we're working with them both. Chester isn't the plucker the Ripley is though so that is a little easier. The only thing is that we're told that Chester is at least 10 years old and very set in his ways.

One of these days we'll have to have a chat about the Senegals.

We did similar things with Beeper and my husband. My husband gave all the good treats and did a lot of target training in his cage with him. We also took advantage of Beeper's fear of towels (we didn't make him afraid, he came that way) and hubby carried a towel with him everywhere he went. If Beeps headed towards him, he would casually lay the towel across his lap, and he would think twice about it.

Towards the end, I would place Beeps on his hand for short periods of time. As soon as he went on hubby's hand, hubby shoved a favorite treat in his face. As soon as he was done with the treat, he came off the hand. Eventually, he was able to hold him again and even got him to step up.

Then he went into breeding season again and the whole thing fell apart. Hubby isn't all that interested in working with him more, and I'm tired of pushing the issue.

Ripley's expressions are just priceless!

I've heard such wonderful things about sennies -- I'm grateful that Ripley & his gang made their way to such a caring home.

Best of luck... and thank you for sharing those lovely photos :)
