Question caging birds together

This post is kind of a spin off from my post regarding my tiel's nonstop screaming. We have a 4 year old tiel adoptee that will not stop screaming. After suggestion from several other birdboard members (thanks!!) we are thinking of adding another tiel to his cage. He was from a home that kept 30 of them in one large cage, so our thought now is that he is too lonely now being in a cage by himself. We only have one other bird in the house who wants nothing to do with the tiel. I have always been warned though against caging two birds together so I am nervous about doing this. But I really can't afford another whole set up for a new bird. Marley's cage is definitely big enough for another bird at least.

The second part of my question is would it be ok to get a baby tiel or would I need to get another from the center he was adopted at? We love Marley but as anyone who has adopted knows, it's much harder and with having problems with him already I'd really like to get a handraised baby instead. They believe Marley is a male so I would be getting another male. Has anyone had a similar situation in adding a bird to a cage. It seems that tiels are not too aggressive, so I am at least a little comforted by that, but just so nervous something could happen. Suggestion are very appreciated!! :)

If you are interested in getting another tiel, then you would need an extra cage and all new supplies for the new cage, in the case that the two tiels do not get along together, and for quarantine procedures. Some birds do not enjoy immature birds, and may prefer an older adult, though it's hard to say from bird to bird.

It is possible that your tiel will calm down with having another one in the house, as tiels aren't normally known to be screamers (like peachfaces), though there is still a small chance that the new tiel would pick up on the screaming and scream itself (like I said, small chance - it may be more likely that the first tiel would calm down some but no guarantee).
