Almost crossed the line

Lori and I went to a bird fair yesterday in Glendale just to look at birds n stuff. Unfortunately we stopped too long at a breeder's booth and handled a 6 mos old CAG. What a sweetheart! After passing it back and forth about 3 times, I handed the baby to Lori and walked off to look at cages. We tried to walk away a few times and came back by. Then reality struck and we 'just said no." If the house wasn't in such a state of turmoil with the daughter and her two dogs staying with us right now.... We also looked at a B&G that had the blue feathers on her back and wings scalloped with yellow along with the last few inches of the tail. She was absolutely beautiful. I had to drag Lori away from that one.

Bird shows aren't any temptation at all to me, because the thought of all the diseases that could potentially cause problems at home always keeps me from buying a bird. With everything else I buy, I disinfect before allowing contact with my fids.

Where I have serious problems, though is with Joel, who insists on exposing me to these beautiful Amazons, obviously in need of a good, loving home. This year alone I've gotten two of them from him and it's still October.

Speaking of 'Zons, a family was getting out of the truck next to us in the parking lot and the woman turned around with a beautiful Yellow Naped on her shoulder. He did some singing and talking on the way. She said he new the Star Spangled Banner, but couldn't get him to perform. I believe she said he was around 10 yrs old.

As much as I love meeting other people's fids, I hate to see them being taken to bird shows. It just seems to me that the risk of disease is too much of a consideration. My first exposure to a DYH was a beautiful little lady leaving a bird show here on the arm of her parront. They stopped so I could drool on her a bit while she sang me a pretty song and ate a bite of her parront's burger. I'll never forget how lovely she was. That was the day I first decided that I needed (yeah, right!) a DYH female.
