Upon questioning a zoo employee, we found that the 2 we have always visited are the parents to the other 5 in the zoo. They have 2 in the central area, 2 in a central american display and 2 in the kids area. The other one is used for educational visits to schools and such. They also have 3 Hyacinths in their programs dept, that only come out in the zoo for special programs. We also stumbled upon 3 other birds that we had not seen before, Golden Conures. What a pretty yellow bird with green flight feathers. They seemed to be closer in size to the mini-macaws. Lori swears one was trying to coax her to the cage. We have been members for a few years and always find the folks working there to be very enthusiastic when talking about the area of the zoo that they work. With my schedule as it stands now, I am considering volunteering for a few hours a week. My only demand will be to play with the Hys.

i have a queen of bavarian as my little baby, they are very sweet birds, she is not any louder then a sun conure so if you can handle that you don't have to watch out, and yes you do need a permit for them , i don't know about hys each state is different as far as rules and regulations

No permit is required for hyacinths, though IMO there should be... great to see a golden conure owner on here!

As far as I know, the only conure that may be illegal in any states would be the quaker which is illegal in 5 states, I think... (and yes, the quaker IS a conure...)

I met a person who owned a QOB conure... very nice lady, loved her birds to death. Monica, I know what you are talking about with the Port Lincoln Keets, I couldnt ID them either when I saw them at the Expo! I was amazed at the size of them, picures make them look so tiny!

Indeed they do! I've seen in person, galahs, blue throated macaws, major mitchells, port lincolns, wild cherry head conures, vasa parrot, among a few other 'rare' birds, and in truth, I wish to get to know them all!
