Question Rescued CAG

I need to get all of the info on Congos that I can. I am thinking of rescuing a CAG. I need to know if they are really dusty? If they are loud? If they are nippy birds all together? Please any info would be greatful. Also wondering how hard it is to import a bird that has all of its vet papers and registration and stuff like that from outside of the US. Is this nearly impossible? Thanks in advance for all of the advice. I already posted this in the expert thread, but no answers as of yet.

Greys are very dusty birds and may need to be bathed daily with an air purifier in the same room to help keep the dust down. They can be loud, and usually do tend to be louder than timnehs, though in general are probably said to be quieter than a jenday... The concept of loudness can differe from person to person so it's really hard to say how loud they actually are.

Any bird can be nippy or bitey, and any bird could be the sweetest well socialized baby out there... It really depends on the birds and how they were raised, etc. Normally though, all parrots tend to be nippy or bitey to some degree.

Import would depend on where the grey is coming from, and it's normally easier to import a bird if you are moving into the states rather than getting one from another country. Importing can be stressful on birds however, as it will require a 30-60 day quarantine at a quarantine facility. Where is this grey coming from? And are you sure it's not a scam?

It is coming from Chad. Im sure its not a scam because the woman who wants to give him to me is paying for everything including shipping. Does the quarenteen thing mean that I do that at my home or they do it somewhere else? Thanks Monica for your response.

Sounds like a HUGE scam. They will overpay you and then ask you to repay them the extra $$. Of course they give you a fake money order which takes a few days to be processed--and then you wind up being out all that money that you "repaid" them.

google 419 nigerian scam.

The quarantining would be done else where before you got to bring it home. I would say that CAGs do have the posibility to be loud. But chances are, not as loud as you Conure or as constant (just from the interactions I've had with conures.) i would serious check EVERYTHING out before you finalize this. There's something fishy about rescuing a bird from so far away. Especially if you can't see and meet the bird in person.

Best of luck to you.

The person is not asking me to repay them. They say they are just "worried about the well-being of the bird". I wouldnt ever even touch the money as they are paying the shipping company so I dont even get to see any money. The person sounds like they are ligit. I just dont know. Any more thoughts?

I wouldn't rescue a bird from so far away. There is no reason for it to be shipped half way across the world. Did you google the 419 nigerian scam? There are many many scenarios there for you to view. They even send out emails from "dying women" asking people to adopt children. I wouldn't touch this thing with a ten foot pole.

It is definetly a scam. It is a vartiant of the old send a a check/money order repay the difference or overage, wait until the thing bounces and discov er you are indeed legally liable to the bank for all missing money. Sorry but back away from it now.

I hate to burst your bubble, but this is yet more drek out of africa. Firstly, Greys cannot be exported directly out of Chad any longer. Second APHIS (US animal customs) would seize & destroy the bird if it was not a personal pet, accompanied by it's us citizen owner, showing international veterinary certificate of health. Third, go to craigslist.org,-->pets-->search for african, & you will see lots of these scams, if you google the phrases they use, you will see that they are listing on all craigslists, & every other free board in existence. Save your money, these scum are thieves.

I havent read any of the scams, but I just dont see how it could be a scam when Im not paying anything. Besides gas to the airport which is 3 hours away. Maybe it is a scam. I will probably not hear from the person again. What if I say that I am going to Chad on vacation and I will pick up the bird then? Then if they say no then I know its a scam right? Help!
