green cheek conure VS quaker parrot

I thought for sure the Quaker Parrot was the bird for me but now I'm considering the Green Cheek Conure as well And was hoping all you knowledgable people can help me out with your stories and experiences with either or both species. This will be my first bird Any help and insight is greatly appreciated!

I don't think you can go wrong with a green-cheeked conure...the ones I've met have been delightful and no one I know who has one has any complaints...

...outside of an occasional nip...

I would opt for gcc over quaker just because of the legality issues surrounding quakers right now. A lot of people will say you're missing out on a great bird if you to by that reasoning, so I'll add that gcc are wonderful little birds in their own right and are more than worth considering for that fact alone.

GCCs are my most all time favorite small bird ever. I've loved every individual that I've met.... though I know there has to be some out there that are not perfect.

They are such clowns, so funny... personable, friendly, cuddly, not really loud in my experience.... actually fairly quiet birds, that love multiple people if correctly socialized.

I don't think you can go wrong with one of these lil guys if provided a proper loving environment. Watch out ! They are escape artists! Also, IME they don't talk much.

I've never personally HAD a quaker... I can't speak to them, but I hear they're tons of fun too....

Good luck!

well

Let me say, if you want a talkative, funny, smart, challenging parrot then a quaker is for you!!
Mine keeps me on my toes, they "feel" like a BIG parrot cause they present themselves as such.
They really are different birds, I like GCs alot, I think they are sweeter than Quakers, I mean they are a conure vs a "Zon" like bird ~ but it's like comparing apples and oranges.
Which fruit fits you best ~ that is always a hard pick!!

Thank you everyone for you replies. They are all greatly appreciated. My boyfriend and I went to visit a breeder(Sugarcreek Bird Farm) last night who has both(a long w/many different species) My boyfriend is greatly leaning towards the Quaker. He wants a bird that talk a lot and Quakers are known to be great talkers. He's already going through different words and phrases to teach it He wants it to count like the Count on Seasame Street.I'm still considering both species not to mention that we met a very charming Meyers Parrot last night and I know I'll eventually have one of them, lol. Thanks again everyone and if someone else has a story or opinion to share please do

I am biased, but a Quaker can be an absolute delight. Talkative, lovable and just a ton of personality. They are also known for being a little nippy near their cages. Once you get used to that and deal with it, I have nothing else negative to say about them. Our Quaker was the apple of my eye and a dear friend. He used to sit on my shoulder, snuggle and purr for me.
GCC's are cute little things. We do not have one, but we do have a larger, grumpy 16 year old Gold Cap Conure that is a woman hater. He flies at my head to attack me and is quite loud. I've heard that GCC's are quieter than the larger cousins and are very affectionate and playful.
My advice, spend time learning about each bird, meet them, play with them............then go get a Quaker!

Quaker vs. Green Cheek Conure

I too have been going back and forth between these two birds. When I found out that conures screech more than quakers that has helped me lean towards getting a quaker. I also have learned that quakers have more ability to talk than conures and I really want a talking bird.

The Meyers Parrot is a fantastic bird. Yes, they are charming, very charming. Usually they don't have the problems of GC and Quakers. I'd try and go visit more breeders or pet stored just to compare species. Tell your boyfriend to be care. He may decide on a species but one bird will cross his path and call him Papa. That will be all she wrote.
