good news

And now for my good news.... another story. A week ago Sunday, my hubby and i were shopping at the local pet store for 'too toys, and looking at all the birds, when i saw the cutest little thing...
A tiny little lovebird. No one at the store seemed to know exactly what kind he was (i believe he is a dutch blue) and they told me he was 6 weeks old and had just weaned himself about a day and a half ago. now, this little bird looked ragged! As though he had been throught the spin dry cycle! i'm not sure if they all look like that at weaning time? however, his eyes were bright, and he came right over to me and climbed up and down the cage, almost as if saying, "pick me! pick me!" i was in love, but i decided to not buy him, since i had my new parrotlet at home and was spending all my time with him.
well, as some of you now know, my parrotlet died, and i was so upset, i couldn't even think straight. Unfortunately, this was on the same day i had found out that my best friend and her daughter had been murdered...so my emotional state was pretty fragile anyway. I got up the next day and went to work, flying on auto pilot pretty much. when i got home, who did i see? a ragged, sweet little lovebird sitting on the table waiting for me! my husband had gone to the store and bought the little one for me.
so now i have Pocito (pronounced Pokito) which translates into "a little bit of something" in spanish. Pocito is more feathered out now, not looking so ragged, and we are becoming fast friends. he rides on my shoulder everywhere, and is learning to step up and 'no'.
i do have a question, though, if anyone knows this: he has what looks like a small piece of flaked-off beak on the side of his face. it doesn't seem to bother him at all. does anyone know what it is for sure and will it come off on its own? i have to wait another week to get him into the vet for his well bird check up, so no help from the vet for a little while.

Kudos for your hubby for being so sweet.

Congratulations on you new baby.

The beak is probably nothing, but it doesn't hurt to have the vet check it out while you are there.

I am so sorry to hear about your friends, I can only imagine how painful that must be. What a horrible thing to have happen.

I hope your new baby helps to heal some of your wounds. (And hey, having a nice hubby is Priceless!!)

That is such a sweet and thoughful gift. He must be mighty special, hold on to this guy.

I agree, the beak is of no concern. Congratulations on your newest addition.
