Paint Ingestion!!!!!!!!

I'm so STUPID!!!!!!!

My sister (_Cass_) was on the computer a little while ago and she had Aree with her. Aree saw this yummy looking painting that Cassie had painted a few days ago by the computer. So Aree muched happily away at the painting while Cassie didn't bother to tell me as I passed by.

So I saw Aree chewing and completly freaked out. I rushed her over to the sink, seeing that there was orange outside and inside her beak. I washed off her beak, and inspected the painting. It had been devored completly in one corner, so I know she had eaten some of the paper.

I don't know what to do!!! My step mom isn't home and she doesn't have a cell... will Aree be ok for a few hours until she can go to the vet????

Help!!!

Update

Its been quite a while since Aree ingested the paint. I'm not too concerned anymore, because she seems to be fine (although I have heard that parrots are masters at hiding illnesses.)

The paint was "child safe" water color, says my Dad. Should I still go to the vet???

I'd reccomend calling a vet and asking in person. I hope someone here gets in touch with you soon but I think ingesting that paint can't be good.

If it was water paint, then it's more likely safe than regular paint that may contain zinc or lead. It's best though to call an avian vet and talk to him first before taking in Aree to get a better opinion of how safe it actually could be...

I would also suggest calling the vet. They might even be able to just answer you over the phone, but they would be able to tell you what to do for sure. Good luck!

Child safe paint means there is no lead in it. However, zinc is in primers which help paint adhere better. I think you are on the safe side with this one.

If it is an artist paint, even if it is a watercolor, it can still be dangerous... The pigments used can be toxic, such as cadmium, zincs, etc... Just being water based does NOT mean it is any safer!

Being an artist, I work with a lot of paint- And I have to keep the bird away from it- the bright colors look SO yummy!!

If it is a CHILDS watercolor, then most likely it is non toxic... you could probaby eat it :)
