Keeping a Red Factor Red

I have a 7 month old Red Factor canary, and have gotten advice to include finely shredded carrot to its diet to help maintain it's color (for the Beta Carotene content). Is it true that this really helps, or is this a myth? I've read it online, and the store from which I bought the bird also suggested this. If it is true, and my bird won't eat the carrots, what else can I do to prevent him from fading or changing colors? The man caring for the birds at the store told me that one of the Red Factors had actually turned, over time, to a brownish-yellow and white mottled coloring because he did not (or would not) eat carrots.

I love Red's intense flame color, and would hate to see him lose it.

I use Higgins Snack Attack Pro-Teen 25 Color Egg food. I have a pair of Red Factors, I give them that, and also they love carrot, as long as its boiled and chopped.

In fact, on the food jar, its says for Red Factor Canaries and finches only.
